6263 An extremely fine early George III mahogany ser-pentine partner's desk, the serpentine moulded edge top with a gilt- tooled faded brown leather inset writing surface fitted with three serpentine friezedrawersto one side and twoslides and drawersto the other, each side furthermore with one pedestal containing four graduated drawers and a cupboard door flanking each kneehole, the ends each with ten dummy drawers; the desk corners each carved with finely fluted, leaf and acanthus ornaments on serpentine plinth bases. The original, London, circa 1760, being a superb pair of back to back kneehole desks shown left in the South Drawing Room.
