A path leads behind the water as it plunges into the river. At around 50m high, the waterfall is at its most powerful when the snow melts in May and June. Hardanger Akvasenter Fish Farming - sustainability This exhibition is truly remarkable, trace the journey of the salmon from smolt through to the top restaurants in Paris or Tokyo. The visit is split between both land and a floating fish farm, accessible only by boat and visitors can watch the salmon via underwater cameras. Groups may also order lunchboxes containing delicious salmon dishes combined with other local delicacies from Hardanger.Norwegian Museum of Hydropower and Industry Sustainability, energy and resource management This exhibit illustrates not only the mechanics of generating hydro-electrical power but also the history and effect it has on the local community. Norway is leading the way in the generation of hydro-electric energy and its role in developing this has been hugely influential worldwide.Hardangervidda Nature Centre Eidfjord Glacial StudiesThis modern and exciting centre focuses on Norway's natural history, climate and environment. Exhibitions over three floors include live aquariums and interactive displays, with some amazing visual effects. The highlight of the visit is a panoramic movie shown across five large screens - the film takes you on a flight over deep fjords, mountains, stunning waterfalls, herds of reindeer and glaciers. Exploring the HardangerfjordThe 120 km long Hardangerfjord is known as the 'fertile fjord' thanks to the hundreds of thousands of apple trees lining its hillsides. Its eastern extremity, where it breaks up into several smaller fjords, is probably the most spectacular: the villages of Utne, Ulvik and Kinsarvik are all as equally charming as each other.Norway HighlightsOur Recommended Experiences Kayaking in Hardanger6 hoursA guided kayaking trip through the beautiful fjord landscape to explore nature and see local wildlife at close range is an experience not to miss.
