tel. 01737 218 800 | discover- the- world. co. uk BEST BROCHURE We are very pleased that our 2009 Iceland & Greenland brochure won a prestigious award and have worked exceptionally hard to ensure this brochure is even better - we hope you enjoy it! " Our winner this year manages to combine the best of both worlds: a lot of hard information - FAQs, maps, daily itineraries, prices, customer testimonials - with clean design and stunning photography" Guardian, Observer Travel Awards 2009 . 9 I fi rst visited Iceland 38 years ago and spent a year working and living in a remote fi shing village called Flateyri, in the West Fjords. The country has changed in many ways since then, but by and large the people have not. They are still some of the most hard working, friendly, well educated and welcoming human beings on the planet and the time I spent living amongst them was without a doubt the most formulative period of my life. The world economic crisis hit Iceland especially badly but despite what you might have read, Iceland is far from a broken country. The basics of one of the most well developed societies in the world is still there, as are their resources of almost unlimited natural energy and a well managed fi sheries stock. Its people, the most literate in the world, are also resourceful and adaptable and to the outsider very little has changed - not least the mind-blowing scenery - surely some of the most spectacular in the world! One of the most positive outcomes following the crisis has been the boom in tourist business as prices have become more reasonable than ever before. Last year I spent 10 days with some of my family enjoying the delights of southern Iceland - we stayed in a summerhouse, drove into the highlands and enjoyed all sorts of activity trips and, I have to say that Iceland has never been such good value. As new fi nancial measures are put in place prices will undoubtedly creep up again, so now really is the time to visit. Over the following pages we set out a great deal of background information about both Iceland and Greenland, allowing you to make an informed holiday choice. Our website works in tandem with the brochure to provide up- to- date pricing and additional information not found in our brochure as well as showcasing extra tours, special offers and new developments - so be sure to bookmark it as a ' Favourite'. In addition, our many specialist travel consultants will be happy to discuss your plans and tailor- make your holiday experience - put their expert knowledge to the test and maybe call in at our offi ces in Surrey where you might also meet another Stacey family member, Sam, the ever- friendly chocolate Labrador! If I can be of any assistance my e- mail address is clive@ discover- the- world. co. uk so please don't hesitate to contact me. I wish you a wonderful, exhilarating and memorable holiday - but beware - Iceland is highly addictive! Góða Ferð!
