Day 2 collect your rental vehicle and head off to explore the Golden Circle route: take a leisurely drive to Thingvellir National Park, visit cascading Gullfoss and the Geysir geothermal area. Day 3 just a scenic two hour drive away is the south shore of Snaefellsnes Peninsula which protrudes into the ocean like an out- stretched arm. Near the tip is Hotel Budir - check in for a two night stay. As you stroll along the nearby sandy shoreline, watch for seals and seabirds or head across the lava fi eld to a panoramic crater viewpoint. Day 4 at leisure to tour the peninsula and national park with its many volcanic features - walk a spectacular coastal path in view of dramatic columnar basalt cliffs, natural rock arches and blow holes; observe the bird life or perhaps take a boat trip from Stykkisholmur ( seasonal - pre- book through us). Visit nearby Gullfoss, the magnifi cent two- tiered waterfall and historic Skalholt with its lovely church. Continue past sweeping glaciers to your hotel and check in for a 2 night stay. Close by is mighty Skogafoss - at 60m high, it is one of Iceland's most photographed waterfalls. Day 3 drive to the basalt columns and surf pounded beach at Reynishverfi or enjoy great views from the cliffs at Dyrholaey, with its natural rock arch. Weather permitting take a long drive eastwards to Skaftafell, now part of the Vatnajokull National Park, set amidst spectacular glacier tongues. Enjoy the scenic drive and possibly take a walk inland to enchanting Svartifoss or the snout of the glacier before heading back to Skogar. Day 4 visit the fascinating museum at Skogar and the elegant falls of Seljalandsfoss. Then on your return journey to Reykjavik, stop at the pretty fi shing village of Eyrarbakki.
