KrisuvikCentral Highlands With the fl exibility of a pick up and drop off from either Reykjavik or the towns of Hveragerdi and Selfoss, both under an hour's drive outside of the capital, this tour is perfect for those who are happy to change guide and travel with new people on their excursion each day. You can even use the excursion as transportation between Reykjavik and the countryside towns, as you'll see from the itinerary below! OUTLINE ITINERARY Day 1 fl y from London Heathrow or Gatwick to Kefl avik on a Sunday and transfer to your accommodation in Reykjavik. Day 2 you will be collected from your accommodation for your fi rst day's excursion: explore the Golden Circle route and visit two-tiered Gullfoss, the Geysir geothermal area and Thingvellir National Park. Walk around the rim of a crater and visit a fascinating geothermal power plant. At the end of the trip disembark at Hveragerdi or Selfoss and check in to your accommodation for a 4- night stay. Day 3 an early start for a fantastic long day's adventure to the Jokulsarlon glacial lagoon - where icebergs collect after they calve off the Vatnajokull glacier. Highlights en route to the lagoon include the iconic waterfalls of Seljalandsfoss and Skogafoss, as well as spectacular glacial scenery, vast deserts and plains of volcanic ash. Day 4 head towards Stokkseyri, for a visit to the Icelandic Wonders Centre, where you will learn about elves, trolls and the northern lights, followed by entry to the Ghost Centre! Enjoy the drive through the stunning landscape of south Iceland and visit a farm in the area, as well as a typical fi shing village. Day 5 pack your swimsuit in your day bag, as you will need it later! Take a journey into the highlands and the colourful mountain landscape of Landmannalaugar nature reserve. Explore the area on foot, or simply enjoy a relaxing bathe in the natural hot spring. In the afternoon, the coach winds its way back through Thjorsardalur, arguably one of Iceland's most beautiful valleys. Day 6 today's excursion visits the Reykjanes Peninsula, situated at the south western end of Iceland, where the North American and Eurasian tectonic plates are slowly pulling apart. Visit the fi shermen's village of Eyrarbakki then follow the coastline via Krisuvik to Grindavik, with a visit to the Icelandic Salt Fish Museum. Finally, arrive at the steaming waters of the world- famous Blue Lagoon ( swim fee payable locally). Disembark at your Reykjavik accommodation for an overnight stay although for those booked on an early morning fl ight on Saturday, we recommend leaving the tour after visiting the Blue Lagoon ( stay overnight at the Northern Light Inn next door, just a 15 minute transfer to Kefl avik airport). Day 7 transfer to Kefl avik for the fl ight back to London. INCLUDED EXCURSIONS The fi rst pick up of the day is from Reykjavik ( with a departure 30 minutes later), followed by Hveragerdi 30 minutes after that, then fi nally from Selfoss 15 minutes later. FLIGHT OPTIONS due to differences in schedules passengers fl ying from regional airports will require extra nights in Reykjavik. Please contact us to discuss your fl ight and itinerary options. ESCORTEDICELAND 81 Our range of escorted tours enable you to travel as part of a group, sharing your experiences with like- minded people. You'll be accompanied by an enthusiastic and knowledgeable guide, who will help bring the natural and cultural wonders of Iceland to life. ESCORTED ICELAND Maybe you've always dreamt of watching the northern lights; or enjoying a gentle countryside coach tour; fancy trying a horse riding or activity- based camping trip; or like the sound of an exciting weekend in a superjeep? From short breaks to two- week holidays, we have options to suit all ages, budgets and interests. Just browse pages 80- 99, and give us a call to discuss your options. GROUP SIZE Each tour page in our brochure shows the maximum group size for a particular escorted holiday. Our ever- popular Countryside group tours ( pages 88- 93) consist of a maximum of 26 participants, whereas the Superjeep Weekend Safari can have as few as two! GUIDES AND DRIVERS Our driver/ guides are chosen for their dedication, enthusiasm, organisational and people skills. They are knowledgeable, helpful, caring and thoroughly professional. ITINERARIES - HIGHLIGHTS AND HIDDEN GEMS We spend a lot of time researching and planning our itineraries, and listening to feedback from our guides and clients. Most trips include a mix of touring and time exploring on foot, visiting specifi c attractions - your guide will ensure you get the most out of every day! TRANSPORTATION The size and type of transportation depends on your chosen tour and the number in the group. Modern buses are used on the Countryside or Classic tours, whilst some itineraries simply require a minibus. Other more special interest tours use a 4WD or superjeep and more robust mountain vehicles are used when driving on gravel roads and highland tracks ( such as on our camping tour). ACCOMMODATION AND MEALS The properties offered on our escorted itineraries provide a warm welcome in excellent locations. Most have their own restaurant and bar, and offer en suite rooms. Please visit our website or see pages 66- 72 for further information on specifi c properties. The tour pages in this brochure and on our website show the meal basis for each group tour. Half board is a two- course set menu ( for example a soup starter followed by fi sh or lamb - hearty and tasty food); hotels can cater to specifi c dietary requirements if notifi ed well in advance. Due to the variety of restaurants in Reykjavik, stays in the capital are on a bed and breakfast basis. Stops will be made for lunch each day as the itinerary dictates, and are payable locally ( unless indicated otherwise). COUNTRYSIDE TOURS As the cornerstone of our Iceland programme and a success year after year, our Countryside Tours offer a fascinating and in depth experience of the island, with a focus on nature and culture. Popular with fi rst and second- time visitors alike, the tours are based around several hand- picked centres and different regions. PRIVATE GROUPS Contact us to discuss adapting our escorted tours for a private group; see page 104 for details. tel. 01737 218 800 | discover- the- world. co. uk
