Jersey Race Club holds regular meetings over the summer months in a delightful, picturesque setting and our visit to the Island will coincide with a Sunday afternoon meeting. The Jersey Race Club was formed in the nineteenth century and the first races took place in 1832. In 1961 the racecourse moved to its current location at Les Landes, with spectacular views over Guernsey, Sark and Herm. Each meeting features five races, with the first race traditionally being a hurdle race, and each race usually sees between 8- 10 runners. THE CLUB HOTEL & SPA The Club Hotel & Spa opened in the summer of 2005. This luxury boutique hotel is situation in the centre of St Helier close to the major shops and restaurants and within easy distance of the island's beaches. The hotel's restaurant, Bohemia, boasts not only a Michelin star but is Jersey's only 4 Rosetted restaurant and was voted one of the top 25 restaurants in the UK by Egon Ronay. The Bohemia Bar serves light snacks while the Club Café serves breakfast, light lunches and dinner in an informal environment overlooking the outdoor swimming pool. Finally, for that quick " night- cap", there is a small honesty bar in a cosy library setting. PLEASE NOTE: to avoid disappointment, reservations for Bohemia Restaurant should be made in advance. All guestrooms have full height windows, air- conditioning, safe, flat screen TV, DVD/ CD player, portable telephone, minibar and Frette Egyptian cotton sheets. The granite bathrooms are equipped with separate shower cubicles with power shower, bathrobes, slippers and L'Occitane toiletries. Goldikova, trained by Freddie Head and partnered by her usual jockey Olivier Peslier, went to Santa Anita a few months later to win her second consecutive Breeders' Cup Mile and to be hailed as one of greatest fillies in recent years.
