The remainder of the day is free for you to relax or explore this vibrant African city. DAY 2: NAIROBI - ARUSHA- We depart early and make our way from Nairobi across the border into Tanzania, and head for Arusha. ( BLD) DAYS 3 & 4: SERENGETI NATIONAL PARK-After breakfast we move on to the Serengeti, one of the best known wildlife areas in the world. The Serengeti is unequalled for its natural beauty and contains more than 3 million large mammals all spread over the vast endless plains. The park is host to the spectacular annual migration of wildebeest in late May or early June. Afternoon game drive on Day 3, morning and afternoon game drives on Day 4. ( BLD) DAY 5: NGORONGORO CRATER- Drive to the Ngorongoro Crater via the Olduvai Gorge, where fossil remains dating back 1.75 million years were found. The Ngorongoro Crater is one of the natural wonders of the world. A large extinct volcano, with an area of 259 sq. kms, it is a self- contained park with a huge variety of game and birdlife. Game viewing is almost guaranteed to provide the ' Big Five'. We descend into the crater for a game drive using 4WD vehicles. ( BLD) DAY 6: LAKE MANYARA NATIONAL PARK - ARUSHA- After breakfast we drive to Lake Manyara. One of Tanzania's most diverse parks, the combination of lakes, woodlands and mountains in Lake Manyara make for superb game and bird viewing. The park is home to large herds of elephants and is also known for its tree- climbing lions. Upon arrival we go on a game drive to explore the area. We then return to Arusha. ( BL) DAY 7: ARUSHA - NAIROBI- Drive back to Nairobi. ( B) DAY 8: NAIROBI- Tour ends. We have five nights to spend in this cultural melting pot of African, Arabic and Indian cultures, renowned for its spices. Relax on the white sandy beaches, swim in the warm turquoise waters of the Indian Ocean or take various excursions to explore the island. ( B) DAY 13: DAR ES SALAAM- We leave Zanzibar and head back to the mainland of Tanzania. Tour ends on arrival in Dar es Salaam. We arrive in time for an afternoon game drive and hope to see a wide variety of wildlife including lion, leopard, elephant, hippo and the rare giant forest hog. ( BLD) DAY 6: QUEEN ELIZABETH NATIONAL PARK- Today we embark on a cruise through the Kazinga Channel which connects Lake Edward and Lake George and is home to huge numbers of hippos and crocodiles. We'll also have time for another game drive through the park. Please note that it is also possible to track wild chimpanzees in the Kyamburu Gorge - this must be pre- booked as space is limited. ( BLD) DAYS 7- 10: GORILLA TRACKING- We travel to the mountains bordering Rwanda and Uganda, home to the world's population of mountain gorillas. Tracking gorillas in their natural habitat is one of the most amazing experiences that Africa offers; to be in the company of such magnificent creatures is something that will stay with you forever. We spend one day tracking gorillas; the rest of the time in this area is free to take part in other optional activities such as forest walks to look for monkeys and birds, and visits to local communities.
