DAY 2: LAKE NAKURU- We depart early for Lake Nakuru, arriving in time for an afternoon game drive. Lake Nakuru is renowned for large concentrations of flamingos and is also a sanctuary for the endangered black and white rhinos. ( BLD). DAYS 3 & 4: MAASAI MARA- After a morning game drive we head to the Maasai Mara. This reserve has one of the highest densities of wildlife to be found on the continent, and our chance of spotting lion, leopard, cheetah, elephant and buffalo are excellent. We enjoy a game drive on arrival followed by a full day of game drives the next day. ( BLD) DAY 5: LAKE VICTORIA- We leave the Masai Mara behind and cross into Tanzania, heading for the shores of Lake Victoria, Africa's largest lake. ( BLD) DAYS 6 & 7: SERENGETI- Drive to the Serengeti. The Serengeti is unequalled for its natural beauty and contains more than 3 million large mammals all spread over the vast endless plains. On arrival we take a game drive followed by a full day of game drives the following day. ( BLD) DAY 8: SERENGETI - NGORONGORO CRATER- After an early morning game drive we depart for the Ngorongoro Crater, one of the natural wonders of the world. A large extinct volcano, with an area of 259 sq. km, it is a self contained park with a huge variety of game and birdlife. Game viewing here is superb. Upon arrival we descend to the crater floor, where we hope to see some, if not all, of the ' Big Five'. ( BLD) DAY 9: NGORONGORO CRATER AND HIGHLANDS- A morning excursion on the crater floor. This afternoon we drive to the village of Nainokanoka where we meet our Maasai guides. We will then hike up to Olmoti Crater where we explore the crater rim on foot, hoping to see some of the several species of antelope that live here. ( BLD) DAY 10: MTO WA MBU- Drive to the village of Mto Wa Mbu, where we embark on a cultural programme with local guides. We explore nearby villages and learn about the various aspects of life here, with plenty of chances for interaction with local people along the way. ( BLD) DAY 11: LAKE MANYARA - KILIMANJARO-This morning we take a game drive through Lake Manyara National Park. One of Tanzania's most diverse parks, the combination of lakes, woodlands and mountains make for excellent game viewing. We then drive to Moshi at the base of Mt Kilimanjaro, to spend the night. ( BD) DAY 12: KILIMANJARO- We spend today walking through superb forest on the slopes of Mt Kilimanjaro, Africa's highest mountain. We visit Maundi Crater before descending back to Moshi for the night. ( BLD) DAY 13: USUMBARA MOUNTAINS- Travel to Lushoto in the Usumbara Mountains, where we visit a local farm and sample some of their produce. We have time to explore this seldom visited part of Tanzania, briefly the ' summer capital' of the country under German occupation. ( BLD) DAY 14: USUMBARA MOUNTAINS- A free day to enjoy the wealth of activities that are available here. The Usumbara Mountains form a biologically distinct area and are part of the Eastern Arc Mountains, where flora and fauna has been isolated from other pockets of rainforest and developed uniquely. We have the chance to take hikes in the forest, visit local villages and spot some of the unusual animal and birdlife that lives here. ( BD) DAY 15: DAR ES SALAAM- Travel to the bustling port city of Dar es Salaam, where we have time to explore. ( B) DAY 16: ZANZIBAR- We take the ferry to the exotic island of Zanzibar, known for its trade in spices, and in previous days, slaves. Our hotel is situated in the atmospheric and historic centre of Stone Town. ( B) DAY 17: ZANZIBAR- We have a free morning to explore the winding streets of Stone Town, and perhaps enjoy a little souvenir shopping. In the afternoon we transfer to our hotel on the north coast of Zanzibar. ( B) DAYS 18 & 19: ZANZIBAR- Two full free days to enjoy Zanzibar's gorgeous beaches. There are many options on offer here, from dolphin cruises to snorkelling and diving. Alternatively just relax and wind down after an active trip.
