DAY 2: KIGALI - RUHENGERI- This morning you will take a short tour around Rwanda's capital city, before driving to Ruhengeri, close to the Parc National des Volcans, home to Rwanda's population of mountain gorillas. ( B) DAY 3: GORILLA TRACKING- After a briefing by park rangers you will head off in search of the mountain gorillas. One of our closest living relatives, it is thought that there are only about 650 of these magnificent ' gentle giants' left. The trek can be long and tiring but the effort is quickly repaid once in the presence of the gorillas - watching them is an extraordinary experience and undoubtedly one of the great highlights of Africa. DAY 2: MT KENYA- We depart from Nairobi early, heading north to Mt Kenya, Africa's second highest mountain. On arrival we have time for an optional walk around the base of the mountain, known for its prolific birdlife and black and white colobus monkeys. ( BLD) DAYS 3 & 4: SAMBURU NATIONAL RESERVE- Continue north to Samburu National Reserve. Samburu is situated in the semi- desert northern frontier area of Kenya and contains many species not found anywhere else in the country. We enjoy morning and afternoon game drives, in search of lion, leopard, giraffe and some of the more unusual species that are found here. ( BLD) DAY 5: LAKE NAIVASHA- Drive to Lake Naivasha. This afternoon we take a boat ride on the lake. ( BLD) DAYS 6- 8: MAASAI MARA- A long drive brings us to the Maasai Mara National Reserve. The Maasai Mara has one of the highest densities of wildlife to be found anywhere in Africa and its rolling plains are considered to be the world's best game viewing location. During our time here we enjoy a variety of game drives in search of its celebrated residents. We hope to spot lion, leopard, cheetah, buffalo, elephant, giraffe, hippo, hyena and much more. Huge glaciers, spectacular views and beautiful ice formations are the reward for the successful trekker, as well as the satisfaction of conquering this mighty peak. No mountain climbing skills are required to reach the summit but it is essential that you are in good physical condition. Our 6- day trek routes allow plenty of time for acclimatisation - the Marangu Route includes an additional rest day part-way and the Rongai Route is one of the most beautiful and least used on the mountain.
