DAY 2: MARRAKECH - AIT ZITOUN TREK-Leaving Marrakech we visit the local market in the village of Lalla Takerkoust before driving to the foothills of the High Atlas Mountains to begin our trek. ( BLD) DAY 3: TREK to TIZGUI & AIT AHMED-Trek on little visited paths through idyllic forest landscapes to Tizgui ( 1,600m) for magnificent views of the Haouz plain. Continue to Ait Ahmed. ( BLD) DAY 4: TREK to KETTO- We hike on trails and unpaved roads through the Angoul Valley, following the course of a river. We pass little Berber villages, shaded by huge walnut trees. ( BLD) DAY 5: TREK to ANAMROU- Ascend a 2,000m pass from where we have superb views of the Amizmiz mountain chain. Descending the other side, we pass through evergreen oaks and juniper woodland en route to Tniret village. After crossing another pass we reach Anamrou. We have the chance to take a ' hammam' to soothe our weary legs. ( BLD) DAY 6: TREK to ADDOUZ- We descend through the valley and cross a pass through oak and pine forest until the village of Addouz. DAY 2: MARRAKECH - HIGH ATLAS TREK-Journey to Tassa Ouirgane ( 1,500m) in the Ouirgane Valley, where we begin our trek to Tiziane ( 1,800m). Our route takes us through the juniper and redwood forests of the Tassa National Park and along the beautiful red-soiled Azzadene Valley. As we leave the forests there are stunning views of the surrounding mountains and we encounter small isolated hamlets and villages. ( BLD) DAY 3: TREK to TIZGUI- Our path takes us out of the Azzadene Valley and up to the pass of Tizi ' n Touati, from where there is a majestic panorama of the High Atlas range. We then descend through a forest of oaks and past villages with stone- walled sheep pens. Overnight camping near Tizgui at Azib Assoul ( 2,300m). ( BLD) DAY 4: TREK to TIZI OUSSEM- We cross the Tizi ' n Tagoudalte pass ( 2,700m) from where we have views of the western High Atlas mountain range. We then have a long descent through alpine areas overgrown with wildflowers and herbs, and follow a river past terraced fields and groves of walnut trees, to the village of Tizi Oussem ( 1,900m). Free afternoon to relax or explore the village. Overnight in a gite. ( BLD) DAY 5: TREK to AREMD- Trek to a small waterfall at Azib Tamsoulte and return to cross the Tizi ' n Mzik pass ( 2,500m). We join the main Toubkal valley at Aremd ( 1,900m), where we spend the night in a village gite. ( BLD) DAY 6: TREK to TOUBKAL REFUGE-Today we gradually ascend the Toubkal valley, via the pilgrimage hamlet of Sidi Chamharouch, to the Toubkal Refuge ( 3,200m). We camp at the foot of Mt Toubkal. ( BLD) DAY 7: SUMMIT MT TOUBKAL- An early start for the challenging trek to the summit of Mt Toubkal, the highest mountain in North Africa at 4,167m. The views from the top make the stiff, but not too long ascent, worthwhile! We return to our base camp near the refuge for the night. ( BLD) DAY 8: TREK to IMLIL - MARRAKECH-Our trek ends with an easy descent through the village of Sidi Chamharouch to Imlil. No mountain climbing skills are required but you will need to have a good level of fitness. The more physically fit you are the easier your body will be able to adapt to the rugged environment and altitude and thus the more you will enjoy the trip. During the trek we stay in village houses or sometimes camp. Village house accommodation is typically in a communal room, with simple bedding provided. You should bring your own sleeping bag and sleeping sheet and be prepared for very basic washing facilities. This is a challenging trek that will reward our efforts with days amidst stunning landscapes, charming villages and the memorable hospitality of the mountain people. After a journey through some of Morocco's most remote areas our trek culminates on the summit of Mt Toubkal for fantastic views over the High Atlas mountains and down towards the mighty Sahara.
