DAY 2: SAIGON- Morning walking tour of the exotic city of Saigon. We explore the bustling market and see the beautiful old colonial buildings from the French era. In the afternoon you have the option to visit the Cu Chi tunnels outside Saigon where the Viet Cong hid during the Vietnam war. ( B) DAY 3: MEKONG DELTA- Driving south we visit the Mekong Delta, an area of islands and rivers where there are no cars and the only form of transport is by boat. We explore in a boat of our own, past floating markets and friendly villages and spend the night in a local house. ( BLD) DAY 4: MEKONG DELTA - SAIGON-Morning sampan cruise ( these are small wooden canoe- like boats) to Vinh Long. Later we drive back to Saigon. ( B) DAY 5: DANANG - HOI AN- Afternoon flight to Danang then transfer to the beautiful ancient trading town of Hoi An. ( B) DAY 6: HOI AN- Take a boat trip along the river stopping at local craft villages. Enjoy fishing opportunites and a picnic lunch. The rest of the day is free to bargain for local handicrafts or even travel to Cua Dai Beach. ( BL) DAY 7: HOI AN- A relaxing free day to spend by the pool, at the beach or more shopping or exploring. ( B) DAY 8: HUE- Drive along the coast via dramatic Cloud Mountain Pass, the geographical divide between north and south Vietnam. Arrive in Hue, a gorgeous UNESCO World Heritage Site, and enjoy an afternoon cruise along the Perfume River to the Heavenly Lady Pagoda and the tomb of the Ngyuen Emperor Minh Mang. ( B) DAY 9: HUE- Our guide takes us on a tour of the Imperial City. The afternoon is free and if you are feeling active you can hire a bike and head into the villages around Hue. We then board the overnight train to Hanoi. ( B) DAY 10: HANOI- Arrive in Hanoi and transfer to our hotel. Take an exciting afternoon cyclo tour of this beautiful old city. ( B) DAY 11: HANOI - HALONG BAY- A truly wonderful day! We drive out to Halong Bay, a stunning area of green steep- sided islands dotted around the turquoise sea and famous from numerous films. We have the chance to explore some huge limestone caves and spend the night gazing at the stars from the deck of our Halong Bay cruise boat. Filled with quaint little shops and restaurants and away from the roaring surf of Kuta and Nusa Dua. DAY 2: UBUD- This morning we drive to the cultural heartland of this ancient island. In Ubud we will visit the Monkey Forest ( keep these creatures away from your valuables!) and Bali Bird Park. Afternoon is free to relax around the pool or do some optional cycling or even white water rafting. ( BD) DAY 3: UBUD- Morning walk through the rice paddies. Afternoon is free to wander around the famous handicraft market of Ubud or more optional activities like visiting the Elephant or Safari Park. ( B) DAY 4: LOVINA- We take a beautiful scenic drive via the Temples of Taman Ayun and the famous Tanah Lot as well as the market in Bedugul and the Gigit Waterfalls. We arrive at the black volcanic sand beach of Lovina on Bali's northern coast. ( BD) DAYS 5 & 6: LOVINA- Lovina is famous for its dolphins. So we rise really early before sunrise and travel by boat out to see the famous dolphins! We'll return to the hotel for breakfast then have plenty of time just to relax. You might want to visit the local hot springs, Buddhist Temples or seaside market or take a snorkelling adventure up the coast to Menjangan ( Deer Island) within the national park. ( B) DAY 7: KINTAMANI- We drive to Kintamani on the rim of Mount Batur via the provincial town of Singaraja. We are met by very beautiful and dramatic volcanic mountain scenery. ( B) DAY 8: KINTAMANI - SANUR BEACH- We have the option of a sunrise walk up to the crater of Mount Batur volcano crater - we might even cook eggs on the volcanic steam! Descend to the hot springs. ( D) DAY 6: SHAPATOU - XI'AN- Watch the sunrise in the desert then continue to the roadhead by camel. We transfer to nearby Shapatou on the banks of the great Yellow River and the southern fringes of the Tengger Desert. You have the chance to raft down the Yellow River on inflatable sheepskins and even go sand tobogganing!! Return to Zhongwei for the overnight train to Xi'an. ( B) DAY 7: XI'AN- A free day to explore. Visit the Muslim quarter or take a bike ride on top of the city walls - the best way to view this wonderful ancient city. DAY 8: XI'AN - CHENGDU- Excursion to the famous Terracotta Warriors and the First Emperor's Tomb. After a picnic lunch we take a flight to Chengdu. DAY 9: CHENGDU- Excursion to the Panda Sanctuary, where we spend time with these delightful animals, as well as their less well-known cousin, the red panda. Free afternoon to explore the many parks for which Chengdu is famous, or perhaps sample the delicious local food. DAY 10: YANGSHUO- A flight to Guilin, in the heart of stunning limestone karst scenery, before continuing to the enchanting small town of Yangshuo, amidst one of the most beautiful areas of China. We have laid on a fun session of activities - cooking, tai- chi and painting / calligraphy - you might even learn how to write your name in Chinese characters! For those who want to be energetic, there are plenty of other opportunities including climbing, caving and bike riding.
