DAYS 2 & 3: NGORONGORO CRATER-After breakfast on Day 2, we head to the Ngorongoro Crater, one of the natural wonders of the world. A large extinct volcano, with an area of 259 sq. kms, it is a self- contained park with a huge variety of game and birdlife. It is one of the best places in all Africa for spotting the ' Big Five'. We descend into the crater in 4WD vehicles on both days, hoping to spot rhino, lion, leopard, wildebeest, elephant and much more. We also take a trip into the surrounding Ngorongoro Highlands to visit a Maasai village and learn more about their way of life. ( BLD) DAYS 4 & 5: SERENGETI NATIONAL PARK-After breakfast we move on to the Serengeti. The Serengeti is unequalled for its natural beauty and contains more than 3 million large mammals all spread over the vast endless plains. It is one of the best known wildlife areas in the world. We take game drives through the park on both days and hope to have excellent sightings of game and birdlife. On one of these days we will also stop off at the Olduvai Gorge, where fossil remains dating back 1.75 million years were found by the Leakeys. ( BLD) DAY 6: LAKE MANYARA NATIONAL PARK-After breakfast we drive to Lake Manyara. One of Tanzania's most diverse parks, the combination of lakes, woodlands and mountains in Lake Manyara make for superb game and bird viewing. The park is home to large herds of elephants and is also known for its tree- climbing lions. Upon arrival we go on a game drive to explore the area. ( BLD) DAY 7: MOSHI- Drive to Moshi at the base of mighty snow- capped ( snow in the African tropics!) Mt Kilimanjaro where the rest of the day is free to relax or explore the town. ( B) DAY 8: ZANZIBAR- Transfer to the airport for a short flight to the spice island of Zanzibar. Upon arrival we transfer to our accommodation on the beach. DAY 2: GRASKOP- We leave the city behind and head north along the Panorama Route, through the historic settlement of Pilgrim's Rest, an old gold mining town that looks almost the same today as it did a hundred years ago. En route we stop at the Mac Mac Falls, before ending up at Graskop. ( BLD) DAYS 3 & 4: KRUGER NATIONAL PARK-Setting off early we drive through Mpumalanga Province, stopping off at the dramatic Blyde River Canyon with its breathtaking views and Bourke's Luck Potholes, a series of unusual rock formations, before arriving in Kruger National Park in the afternoon. All of the amazing wildlife of South Africa can be found here and we enjoy game drives through the park, in search of the ' Big Five'. ( BLD) DAY 5: SWAZILAND- After a morning game drive we travel to the small Kingdom of Swaziland and into Mlilwane Game Reserve. This afternoon there is time for a walk around the reserve. ( BLD) DAY 6: ST LUCIA- Today we drive to St Lucia, a UNESCO World Heritage Site with a fantastic beach, where we take a sundowner cruise on the nearby lake, looking out for hippos and crocodiles. We then head to Hluhluwe to spend the night. ( BLD) DAY 7: HLUHLUWE- Take a morning excursion to Hluhluwe/ Umfolozi National Park, home to the largest population of black and white rhino in the world. ( BLD) DAYS 8 & 9: DRAKENSBERG MOUNTAINS-Head inland and drive through the spectacular scenery of the Drakensberg Mountains, one of South Africa's ( if not the world's) most impressive areas. The scenery here will simply take your breath away with towering rock escarpments soaring high into the sky, changing colours as the day progresses.
