Trip dossiers contain detailed notes about the places you'll visit, transport, journey times, visa requirements, border taxes and much more. Country dossiers clue you up about currency, budgeting, packing, responsible travel, food, weather etc. and the pre departure notes give you all the general advice you need before you go. You can download your trip and country dossiers, and the pre- departure information, using the links on each trip from the website www. imaginative- traveller. com Local Payment The Local Payment is an integral part of your tour cost. Most of our tours include a Local Payment which must be paid to your Tour Leader in cash on Day 1 of the tour. By structuring your payment in this way we are able to keep the Local Payment in the destination where it is needed, avoiding costly bank charges and administration overheads, which in turn means we can pass this saving on to our clients. Please refer to the brochure or the website for details of the amount and currency. We regret that traveller's cheques and credit cards cannot be accepted. Solo Travel With Imaginative Traveller travelling alone couldn't be easier. There are NO compulsory single supplements on most of our Adventurer, Traveller or Volunteer style trips. We arrange twin share accommodation for you with another tour member of the same sex. On a limited number of African trips, our Connoisseur tours, Extensions, City Starter tours and Independent tours single supplements will apply - please see individual tours for further details. Working out your budget Given our wide range of holidays, and the fact that people's requirements differ greatly, it is always difficult to advise how much money to bring. Our trip and country dossiers will give more specific information but you should bear in mind the following possible costs; Tipping: Tipping is a way of life in almost all of the countries featured in this brochure. Locals themselves will usually tip someone who has provided them with a service and in many cases people depend on the tips they receive to supplement meagre salaries. In order to make things as easy as possible and avoid embarrassing situations we have developed a ' tipping kitty' system for all our tours. Your tour leader will collect a contribution from everybody in the group and then this ' kitty' is used to tip anybody who has rendered services to the group as a whole. Your trip dossier will advise how much you need to allow for the kitty but it is generally approximately US$ 20- 30 (£ 10- 15) per week of the tour. Meals & Entrance Fees: Please see individual tour itineraries, plus your trip and country dossiers. Optional Excursions: Please see your trip and country dossiers for a guideline of the excursions available in your destination. Camera Fees: In some countries you will need to pay camera fees to take photos at certain sites. These are not included in your tour price. Your country dossier will give more details if camera fees apply in your destination. Drinks: No drinks are included. Drinks are usually cheaper than they would be in your home country. Border Taxes: Border taxes ( where applicable) are never included in the tour cost. Check your trip dossier for tour specific information. Visa Costs: Depending on your nationality the visa costs vary, please check with our office or specialist visa agency. Travel Insurance: See page 243. Think twice before booking with us One of the reasons people choose to travel is to experience cultures and lifestyles which are very different from their own. Whilst these differences are sometimes perceived by visitors as local inadequacies, they are an integral part of adventure travel. In our destinations, you will almost certainly have to contend with such things as relative inefficiency, a more relaxed attitude to time, cancellations and closures without explanation, outdated facilities, suspect plumbing and apparently mindless bureaucracy. Imaginative Traveller strives to maintain a high quality service but, sometimes, the best available locally simply cannot be compared with what you are used to at home. This may on occasion result in discomfort, inconvenience or just plain frustration. Our tours are not designed for those who wish to be shielded from the realities of life in these destinations but, rather, for those who really want to experience the country and its people. Therefore, before booking with us, in the interests of your enjoyment and that of your fellow travellers, you must be prepared to accept these countries as you find them, " warts ' n all". Most importantly, don't forget to pack your sense of humour, an invaluable item for any traveller. Travel advice - be informed The Foreign and Commonwealth Office of the British Government maintains an up to date information and advisory service for travellers. Many of the decisions we make with regard to our itineraries, particularly where the safety and security of travellers is concerned, are based directly on this advice. If you would like to refer to this advice yourself, you can telephone an information line on 0845 850 2829for the most recent statement ( UK only). The latest FCO travel advice can also be obtained via the Internet by contacting the British FCO web site: www. fco. gov. uk. All non UK travellers should check with their own consulates. Trekking grades All trips which include trekking are graded: Easy- Enjoyable by anyone who leads a reasonably active life. 5- 6 hours a day with occasional tough uphill sections. Moderate- A mixture of longer and shorter walks of 5- 7 hours per day. You will need to be fit for these treks. Strenuous- A combination of moderate and demanding hikes of 6- 8 hours per day suitable for keen hikers with a good level of fitness. Vaccinations As our trips visit remote areas of developing countries, we strongly advise that you check with your doctor or a medical centre for specific health advice. It is your responsibility to ensure that you obtain any vaccinations and precautionary or preventative medicines for the countries you are visiting. Meeting points Details of your hotel meeting point will be printed on the vouchers you will receive approximately one month prior to departure. Alternatively a complete list of all meeting point hotels can also be found on our website. It is your responsibility to check the website a week before your departure date, as meeting points can change. See www. imaginative- traveller. com The small print When planning your travels it is easy to get into the holiday spirit and overlook less exciting things like the " Booking Conditions". Though the Booking Conditions may seem dull, they are very important as they form the basis of your agreement with us. They detail our responsibilities to you and provide guidelines to cover circumstances which may arise. Age limits Our holidays are of an active nature, using varied transport and accommodation. As such we find that most of our clients are aged between 18 and 60 ( except on Family holidays where the minimum age is 6, or 10 for Family Volunteer tours). Of course travellers older than this can ( and do) join, but please bear in mind that everybody is expected to complete the itinerary and an inability or unwillingness to participate in group activities may detract from your enjoyment of your holiday. If you have any queries about what a particular itinerary involves, please contact us. More specific information can be found in the Booking Conditions. Surcharges for Egypt, Russia and Africa Certain destinations are notorious for sudden increases in fees and costs - examples include the Egyptian government requiring tourists to use the more expensive sleeper trains, African National Park fees rising considerably between seasons and Russian costs increasing without warning. These increases are beyond the control of Imaginative Traveller and we will be compelled to pass the necessary charges onto the traveller. Unused services The journeys featured in this brochure are sold as complete tours. Travellers may choose to arrive after a tour has started or to leave an itinerary before the scheduled finish. They may also miss out meals or sightseeing if they so desire. However, no refund can be given for unused services.
