VIETNAM CAMBODIA THAILAND 37 SOUTH EAST ASIA Bangkok to Saigon by Bike Imaginative Facts Tour code: SPBB • Activities: Jungle hiking and cycling • Accommodation: 20 nights simple hotels and 1 night sampan cruise • Transport: Bike, bus • Fully Escorted: By Imaginative Traveller tour leader and back up crew DAY 1: BANGKOK- Arrival day. DAYS 2- 4: KHAO YAI NATIONAL PARK-We spend time in one of the most beautiful national parks in Asia. We explore the thick jungle on foot and by bike, following narrow paths that take us past spectacular waterfalls and steep- sided mountains. The scenery is stunning and there is a huge variety of wildlife. DAYS 5- 7: CYCLE to SIEM REAP- We then ride towards the east and leave the relative ease of Thailand's roads and cycle to Siem Reap through rural Cambodia. The roads are rougher on the Cambodian side of the border, and we often find ourselves overtaking carts drawn by water buffalo. We pass endless lush paddy fields and friendly villages where groups of children shout greetings. DAYS 8- 10: ANGKOR WAT- Three full days to explore the magnificent Khmer temple complex of Angkor Wat and its many surrounding sites as well as the bustling Siem Reap market. There is also time to recharge the batteries! DAYS 11- 15: CYCLE to PHNOM PENH-Continue cycling through scenic Cambodia en route to the capital, Phnom Penh. There is plenty of time to explore the city and get an insight into the appalling regime of Pol Pot who ruled Cambodia by terror. The infamous Killing Fields at Choeung Ek and the torture centre of Tuol Sleng are not far from the city. DAYS 16- 18: CYCLE to VIETNAM- Three more days of cycling on a rural route to Vietnam, heading south to the Mekong Delta. We move along at the languid pace of the region passing through tiny villages, verdant rainforests and stunning landscapes, absorbing the atmosphere as we pedal along. DAYS 19- 21: MEKONG DELTA and SAIGON- Take a sampan cruise through the waterways of the Mekong Delta, an area of islands and rivers, full of floating markets, lush scenery and friendly villages. This is a great opportunity to relax after our exertions, lulled by the rhythm of riverside life. DAY 22: SAIGON ( HO CHI MINH CITY)- We make for Ho Chi Minh City, which everyone still calls Saigon, the ultimate destination on this amazing journey. Tour ends. Note: This is an approximate itinerary and is subject to change according to local conditions. Please be flexible and expect some variations. Note: We won't be cycling the entire distance from Bangkok to Saigon.
