DAY 2: ISTANBUL - OVERNIGHT TRAIN-Today we take a walking tour of the old city, visiting the Blue Mosque, Aya Sophia and the Basilica Cistern. After dinner we board an overnight train to Ankara. ( B) DAY 3: ANKARA - CAPPADOCIA- On arrival in Ankara we visit Ataturk's Mausoleum and then drive to the spectacular region of Cappadocia via the village of Hacibektas, home to Turkey's Alevite population. ( D) DAY 4: CAPPADOCIA- Today we spend a full day exploring Cappadocia's fascinating rock formations and underground dwellings. Travel on foot as well as by bus, through some of the more spectacular valleys, with lots of fantastic photo opportunities in this totally unique landscape. ( B) DAY 5: KONYA - PAMUKKALE- Drive to Konya, home of the Whirling Dervishes, before heading on to Pamukkale. ( BD) DAY 6: PAMUKKALE- Visit the famous calcified falls of Pamukkale and the ancient city of Hierapolis before driving to Selcuk. We then have a free day to visit the incredible open air museum at Goreme. ( B) DAY 6: KONYA - VILLAGE STAY- We visit Konya, home to the famous Whirling Dervish sect, and then continue to Beysehir where we visit an unusual 13th century mosque. We stay tonight in a local home in a peaceful village by a lake, giving us great opportunities to observe rural village life and interact with local people. ( BD) DAY 7: EGIRDIR - ARYKANDA - KAS-Crossing the Taurus Mountains we visit the spectacular site of Arykanda overlooking the River Arykandpos, then drive to Kas with its picturesque old fishing harbour. ( B) DAY 8: KALKAN - FETHIYE - Following the exquisite Turquoise Coast we drive to Kalkan, a beautiful village that tumbles down the hillside. Continue to Fethiye where we board our gulet. ( BD) DAY 9: GULET CRUISE- Our gulet cruise takes us around the idyllic bays and islands of the Turquoise Coast. We carry canoeing and snorkelling equipment on board but otherwise this is pure relaxation time.
