DAYS 2 & 3: SHEKHAVATI- Shekhavati was an important stop on the famous silk route, the wealth reflected in fine havelis ( courtyard homes) and flamboyant frescoes. We spend the night in a beautifully restored heritage hotel. The following day we take a camel ride and overnight in the Desert Resort, in ' luxurious' mud- built huts. ( B) DAYS4 & 5: JAIPUR- Drive to the ' Pink City' of Jaipur. Take an afternoon excursion to the splendid Amber Fort and the next morning a tour of the City Palace and mystical ' Palace of Winds'. ( B) DAY6: RANTHAMBORE- Drive to Ranthambore National Park for an afternoon game drive, the open landscape making tiger sightings more feasible. ( BD) DAYS7 & 8: KARAULI- Drive to Karauli where we stay in the elegant Bhanwar Vilas Palace where His Highness, Krishna Chandra Pal, often joins guests. ( B) DAY9: BHARATPUR - AGRA- Drive to Agra, en route visiting the Keoladeo Bird Sanctuary at Bharatpur and the evocative deserted Moghul city of Fatehpur Sikri. ( B) DAY10: AGRA- A visit to the quintessential Indian monument - the Taj Mahal. Take the overnight sleeper train to Varanasi. ( B) DAYS11- 13: VARANASI- Varanasi ( Benares) is a magical place, chaotic, colourful and spiritual with the main focus being the holy River Ganges. The first afternoon we visit Sarnath where Buddha preached his first sermon. The next morning we take an early morning boat trip past the long string of ghats from which pilgrims make their sin- cleansing dip and on which bodies are cremated. An amazing portrait of Indian life. In the evening of Day 13 we board the sleeper train to Delhi. ( Days 12 & 13 - B) DAY14: DELHI- Arrive Delhi and transfer to hotel. Free day. DAY15: DELHI- Tour ends. ( B) Note: During June- September, we stay a night in Madhogarh Fort as Ranthambore National Park is closed.
