No activities are planned, so arrive at any time and wander the intriguing streets of this ancient capital.Day 2 / Yogyakarta Take an optional cycle rickshaw (becak) tour by the Sultan's Palace, markets and batik and puppetry workshops.Day 3 / Borobudur - Yogyakarta Visit the amazing Buddhist complex of Borobudur. In the evening, view a performance of the classic Ramayana, a gamelan concert or discover the art and craft of puppetry.Day 4-5 / Solo - Malang Visit the famous Prambanan complex, which encompasses 224 ruined Hindu temples. The following day we continue on to the Dutch colonial town of Malang.Day 6 - 7 / Mount Bromo - Kalibura Continue to Mount Bromo (Gunung Bromo), an impressive, still live volcano. The following morning, take jeeps to a stunning viewpoint for sunrise, then across the 'Sea of Sand' to climb the 246 steps to the rim of the inner crater. Then drive to the hills of Kalibaru and stay overnight in beautifully set bungalows amid coffee, cocoa and rubber plantations.Day 8 / South Bali Drive along north coast of East Java to Banyuwangi. A short boat trip takes us to the paradise island of Bali.Day 9 / Ubud Today we drive to Ubud, the cultural centre of Balinese life. En route, we visit the spectacular island temple of Tanah Lot. There's time to explore the Monkey Forest, and beautiful terraced rice fields, and wander the famous art and craft market in the centre of town.Day 10 / Lovina Drive towards Bali's northern coast via the temples of Taman Ayun and the market at Bedugul. Not before a visit to Gitgit Waterfalls for a cooling dip.Day 11 / Lovina A wonderful day with lots of options. Head to Menjangan (Deer) Island and spend the day swimming, snorkelling or diving. Alternatively, get up early for a dolphin cruise.Day 12 / Mount Batur - Kintamani Leave the coast and ascend the incredibly scenic slopes of Mount (Gunung) Batur. Stop at several lookouts to take in views of Mount Batur crater and lake.Day 13 / Padang Bai Optional sunrise walk up Mount Batur. Head to the lovely fishing village of Padang Bai, surrounded by beautiful beaches. A highly recommended option is the trek up Mount Rinjani. For Rinjani trekkers it's an early start up through the forested slopes and the denuded scree before reaching the crater rim were you spend the night camping under canvas or the stars.Day 18-20 / Gili Islands Cruise out to the idyllic Gili Islands. Where we spend two days to relax on these isolated, beautiful isles. Walk, dive, swim, snorkel or just relax in tropical paradise.Day 21-22 / South Bali Transfer back by fast boat to South Bali.
