In the following days, we explore the Forbidden City, stroll across Tiananmen Square and walk along a well-preserved section of the Great Wall.Day 4-5 / Xian - Terracotta Warriors An overnight train journey brings us into Xian at dawn. Soon we're out exploring this historic city, our first stop: the 2000-year-old Terracotta Warriors. There is time to wander through Xian's Muslim Quarter too (try the dumplings!).Day 6-8 / Yangshuo A short flight takes us to Guilin, then it's a local bus to Yangshuo, our base for the next few days. A photographer's paradise, the countryside surrounding Yangshuo is best explored on bikes.Day 9-10 / Hong Kong From the bustling southern city of Guangzhou, we board a hydrofoil to cruise into Hong Kong. There is just so much to see and do in Hong Kong - take in the epic panorama from Victoria Peak, head to the markets at Stanley or slurp and chew your way through some sumptuous food in Tsim Sha Tsui. Our journey comes to an end on Day 10. There is much to see, so it's worth arriving a day or two before the trip starts to fully explore the city. On Day 2, we head across the harbour to Guangzhou (Canton) on a three-hour hydrofoil journey.Day 3-5 / Yangshuo If you're into photography, you'll love Yangshuo. Limestone towers rise dramatically from deep green rice fields, creating a beautiful landscape. We ride bikes through this stunning scenery before relaxing in one of the sidewalk cafes.Day 6-9 / Yangtze River Cruise Over the next two and a half days, we cruise through the famed Three Gorges and witness the construction of the massive Yangtze Dam. One minute you're surrounded by sheer cliff faces, the next you're passing a thriving city or an eerily deserted town.Day 10-12 / Chengdu - Giant Pandas - Giant Budha After spending the night in Chongqing, we head to Chengdu and visit the Giant Panda Breeding Research Base. Heading from one giant to another, we travel to Leshan and the massive Buddha statue, 'Da Fo'.Day 13-14 / Xian - Terracotta Warriors An overnight train journey brings us into Xian at dawn. Explore this historic city renowned for the immense archaeology dig of the 2000-year-old Terracotta Warriors. Wander through Xian's fascinating Muslim Quarter (try the dumplings!) before boarding a sleeper train to Suzhou.Day 15-17 / Beijing - Great Wal Beijing is one of the most fascinating cities in the world, with many intact remnants of its colourful past. We check out the Forbidden City and Tiananmen Square, and explore a little way out of town along the iconic Great Wall.Day 18 / Suzhou There are many beautiful gardens to explore in Suzhou and it's well worth wandering the silk city's backstreets and alleyways to experience a laid-back atmosphere.Day 19-20 / Shanghai A short morning train ride takes us to the 'Paris of the East', Shanghai. We have two days to explore this dynamic city, allowing time to stroll along the famous river waterfront, The Bund, lined by distinctive Art Deco buildings.Day 21 / Hangzhou Like tea? Our next stop is the city of Hangzhou - the Chinese believe this region produces the finest tea in the land. Relax in one of the many teahouses or cycle out to the temples and gardens surrounding the city's West Lake.Day 22-24 / Yelow Mountain Yellow Mountain (Huangshan), consisting of 72 peaks, is probably the country's most famous landscape and our base for the next few days.
