Day 2 / Galapagos Cruise - Las Bachas A flight takes us to the island of Baltra, where our Galapagos cruise begins. First stop is the beautiful beach of Las Bachas, a major egg-laying site for sea turtles. Marine iguanas and flamingos are common here. Day 3-5 / Las Plazas - Santa Fe - Espanola - Floreana South Plaza is home to both marine and land iguanas and, on Santa Fe, we go swimming and may be joined by inquisitive sea lion pups. We visit Espanola and Floreana, where we encounter hood mockingbird, waved albatross, Galapagos hawks, boobies and finches. Day 6 / Santa Cruz - Charles Darwin Station Dropping anchor at the town of Puerto Ayora, we visit the Charles Darwin Research Station and head into the highlands to see giant tortoise in the wild. Day 7-8 / Rabida - Puerto Egas - Bartolome - Sombrero Chino At Puerto Egas we see sponges, snails, hermit crabs, barnacles and fish in the tidal pools. A climb along the Summit Trail takes us to the top of Bartolome. We then head to the tiny island of Sombrero Chino. Day 9-10 / North Seymour - Quito North Seymour is our final port of call. We spot the magnificent frigatebird and blue-footed booby before returning to Baltra for our flight back to Quito. We enjoy a free day to further explore Ecuador's capital. Day 11-13 / Lima We fly from Quito to Lima. Over a few free days, visit many fantastic museums of the Inca and coastal civilizations and wander the colonial heart of Lima, and its treasure trove of great buildings. Day 14-16 / Puno - Lake Titicaca We fly to Puno on the shores of Lake Titicaca. Here we explore the lake and the floating reed islands of the Uros Indians. We stop at Amantani Island and stay the night with a local Indian family. On Day 16 we return to Puno. Day 17-18 / Cusco We travel by bus, crossing over the Le Raya Pass (4321m) to magnificent Cusco. Here we explore the Plaza de Armas, cathedral and main museum. Later you can visit Sacsayhuaman and the beautiful Sacred Valley. Day 19-22 / Inca Trail Trek We set off hiking along ancient Inca trails. Day 23 / Cusco After the trek it's time to relax and take in those last few sights in Cusco. There's some great shopping to be done in the souvenir markets that surround the main plaza - a local hat is a must! Day 24-25 / Amazon Jungle We fly to Puerto Maldonado and travel by boat along the Tambopata River to our jungle lodge. We hike jungle trails with a local guide and hope to spot macaws, parakeets, hoatzin and wading birds. Day 26 / Lima We return to Puerto Maldonado and a short flight takes us to Lima and the end of our trip. We'll witness a stunning assortment of wildlife along the way. Day 7-9 / The Northern Islands This includes visits to Rabida, Puerto Egas, Bartolome, Sombrero Chino and North Seymour. Once again, wildlife is prolific and, in addition, we'll see spectacular volcanic formations. On our final day we return to Quito to start our exploration of the Ecuadorian mainland. Day 10-13 / Colonial Quito - Otavalo - Amazon Jungle After exploring Quito we cross the equator into Otavalo. We visit the Amazon basin for a two night stay in a jungle lodge on the Napo River. With a local guide we travel by canoe and on foot to learn more about this ecologically important region. Day 14-17 / Banos - Cotopaxi Volcano - Quito In Banos, we have many optional outdoor activities to pick from, including rafting, mountain biking, bungee jumping and horse-riding. We will climb to the lookout on Cotopaxi Volcano. We return to Quito on Day 16 for a final night together before our trip ends after breakfast on Day 17.
