Nestled in a fertile valley, most of the city's colonial buildings have been rebuilt following a series of earthquakes. The beautiful National Theatre is a must-see. Day 3-4 / Monteverde Travelling into the mountains, we arrive at the village of Monteverde. The Monteverde Cloud Forest is home to hundreds of species of mammals, birds and plants. Stroll along the giant 'sky walk' - a series of suspension bridges through the forest canopy. Day 5-6 / La Fortuna - Arenal The town of La Fortuna is known for the spectacular active volcano of Arenal, where molten lava can often be seen flowing from the crater. We hike around the volcano and take a refreshing dip in the stunning Fortuna Waterfalls. Day 7-9 / Puerto Viejo We continue on to the small town of Puerto Viejo, where long walks on pristine beaches, snorkelling, diving, world-class surfing and mountain biking are just some of the activities that await us. We also visit the nearby Cahuita National Park. Day 10-11 / Bocas del Toro We cross into Panama and catch a boat to Colon - the main island in the Bocas del Toro archipelago. Relax on the beach and chill out in a small Caribbean village to a calypso beat. Day 12-14 / Boquete Return to the mainland we travel to Boquete, located on the slopes of Baru Volcano. There are a host of exciting optional things to do here, including ascending the cone of the volcano, rafting, kayaking or seeking out exotic bird life. Day 15-17 / Panama City Our final destination is Panama City, where we pay homage to the famous Panama Canal and visit the World Heritage quarter of San Felipe (Casco Viejo).
