Day 3-4 / Monteverde Travelling into the mountains, we arrive at the village of Monteverde. The Monteverde Cloud Forest is home to hundreds of species of mammals, birds and plants. Stroll along the giant 'sky walk' - a series of suspension bridges through the forest canopy. Day 5-6 / La Fortuna - Arenal The town of La Fortuna is known for the spectacular active volcano of Arenal, where molten lava can often be seen flowing from the crater. We hike around the volcano and take a refreshing dip in the stunning Fortuna Waterfalls. Day 7-9 / Puerto Viejo We continue on to the small town of Puerto Viejo, where long walks on pristine beaches, snorkelling, diving, world-class surfing and mountain biking are just some of the activities that await us. We also visit the nearby Cahuita National Park. Day 10-11 / Bocas del Toro We cross into Panama and catch a boat to Colon - the main island in the Bocas del Toro archipelago. Relax on the beach and chill out in a small Caribbean village to a calypso beat. Day 12-14 / Boquete Return to the mainland we travel to Boquete, located on the slopes of Baru Volcano. Day 3 / Mexico City Start the day with a guided walking tour of the historic centre of this exciting capital, before heading off on your own - or with new friends - to explore the great museums, buildings and markets. Day 4 / Puebla We drive to the small city of Puebla. The almost unparalleled preservation of Spanish-colonial Puebla means a walk through the streets feels like a walk through time. Check out the charming colonial buildings and churches of this city. Day 5 / Oaxaca Next stop is Oaxaca, a convivial and colourful colonial city that has become famous as an artistic centre offering an exciting array of handicrafts and souvenirs. Day 6 / Monte Alban We visit the ancient Zapotec ruins at Monte Alban today then, in the evening, catch the night bus to San Cristobal de Las Casas in the state of Chiapas. Day 7-8 / San Cristobal Fill your day shopping along San Cristobal's narrow cobblestone streets, learning about traditional Mayan medicine or kicking back to some Latin tunes. We also visit a highland village where the indigenous inhabitants have their own distinctive colourful dress. Day 9-10 / Palenque Further on is the partially excavated jungle town of Palenque, where we explore the intricacies of these Mayan ruins in their jungle setting. Next we visit Agua Azul, where scores of dazzling white waterfalls thunder into turquoise pools surrounded by lush jungle. Day 11-12 / Merida We head to Merida, the capital of the state of Yucatan. This historic city has long been a centre of Mayan culture and the Anthropological Museum is a great insight into the way of life of the ancient Mayans. Day 13-15 / Chichen Itza - Cancun On our way to Cancun, we visit the Mayan site of Chichen Itza. From our Cancun hotel, the beachside oasis of Playa del Carmen is a local bus ride away.
