Day 2 / Cairo In the morning, we visit the Egyptian Museum then continue on to the Great Pyramids and Sphinx at Giza. In the evening, we board the sleeper train to Luxor. Day 3 / Luxor Arrive and transfer to MS Melodie, our Nile cruise boat. Take a horse drawn carriage to the mighty Karnak Temple. Day 4 / Valey of the Kings - Nile Cruise - Edfu We cross the Nile this morning and ride donkeys into the Valley of the Kings. It's great fun and one of the highlights of the trip. We continue this evening to Edfu where we dock for the night. Day 5 / Nile Cruise - Kom ombo Visit the Temple of Horus at Edfu, before sailing to Kom Ombo where we visit the Temple of Sobek, the crocodile god. Tonight we moor in Kom Ombo. Day 6-7 / Nile Cruise - Aswan - Abu Simbel Cruise to Aswan, the rest of the day is free to explore. The next morning we depart early for the magnificent temples at Abu Simbel. Day 8 / Aswan - Edfu We enjoy magnificent views of the Nile Valley as we sail back to Edfu. Day 9-10 / luxor - Red Sea - Hurghada We arrive back into Luxor for our last night aboard. The next morning we transfer to Hurghada, on the Red Sea coast. It's a great place to kick back and relax on the beach. Day 11 / Hurghada - St Catherine's Board a hydrofoil bound for the Sinai, an area of untamed natural beauty. We transfer to St Catherine's and sleep at the foot of Mount Sinai. Day 12 / Mount Sinai - Cairo We rise early to join the pilgrims climbing to the summit of Mount Sinai for the sunrise. The desert views atop this iconic location are absolutely magnificent. In the afternoon we are driven back to Cairo. Day 13 / Alexandria Drive north to the Mediterranean coastal city of Alexandria, where Cairo locals come to escape the hustle and bustle of the big city. The afternoon is free to explore Alex. Day 14 / Alexandria - Cairo A morning guided tour of the National Museum, Catacombs of Kom ash-Shuqqafa and Pompey's Pillar. In the afternoon we return to Cairo. Day 15 / Cairo Our tour ends after breakfast in Cairo. Jewels of Egypt 15 days Watching the sun rise from atop biblical Mt Sinai is awesome. On Day 2 we head out to the famed fringe of the city, where our guide explains the history of the pyramids and Sphinx. Day 3 / White Desert We meet our Bedouin crew and drive south in 4WDs to the oasis town of Bahariya. We stop at the museum in Farafra and swim in one of many natural springs, before entering the White Desert to camp under a blanket of stars. Day 4-5 / Dakhla We visit Al Qasr and its Ethnographic Museum and enjoy a night of traditional Bedouin food and dancing. The next day, we explore the nearby dunes by jeep and on foot. In the afternoon, we set off on our camel caravan, spending the night camped on desert sands. Day 6 / Al Kharga - Baris At Al Kharga, we visit the Temple of Hibis and explore the ancient necropolis of Al Bagawat, over 1500 years old. We then continue on to Baris Oasis for our final desert camp. Day 7-8 / Luxor We say farewell to our new Bedouin friends in Luxor. The next day, we ride donkeys into the impressive Valley of the Kings. We can also check out the bazaar and visit the decorated columns and evocative shadows of Karnak Temple. Day 9 / Aswan Arriving in Aswan, we are greeted by the picturesque sails of dozens of feluccas plying around the islands. In the afternoon, we explore the Nubian bazaar or enjoy optional activities. Day 10-12 / Abu Simbel - Feluca Cruise Drive along the shores of Lake Nasser to visit the staggering temple complex at Abu Simbel. Returning to Aswan, we board feluccas and sail towards Edfu, where we visit the Temples of Horus and Kom Ombo. Day 13 / Luxor We say goodbye to our Nubian friends and travel by road to Luxor. Spend the afternoon shopping or exploring the backstreets before we board the night train to Cairo. Day 14-15 / Cairo A free day to spend at your leisure. Perhaps head to the Khan el Khalili - one of the greatest bazaars in the Middle East. Our trip ends the next morning after breakfast. |
