The Ben Thanh Market sells everything under the sun, while the War Remnants Museum provides a sobering reminder of Vietnam's war-ravaged past. A journey down the mighty Mekong by boat takes us to a small island, where we spend the night in a homestay with a local family. From the laid-back beach town of Nha Trang, we explore offshore islands and snorkel amongst the colourful fish and coral in the warm waters of the South China Sea. We ride bicycles around ancient Hoi An and explore the charming northern capital, Hanoi, before heading to Halong Bay, where the rugged limestone pinnacles and grottoes combine to form one of the world's most enchanting landscapes.Trip InfoDeparture DatesDAY 1 / SAIGON - Arrive in Saigon and transfer to hotel. DAY 2: SAIGON - We start our trip with a city tour of busy, bright and bustling Saigon (Ho Chi Minh City). Here, the Ben Thanh Market seems to sell everything under the sun, while the War Remnants Museum provides a sobering reminder of Vietnam's war-ravaged past. Enjoy a free afternoon to explore at leisure. DAYS 3-4 / MEKONG DELTA - Travel to the scenic Mekong Delta. A journey along the Mekong by boat takes us to a small island, where we spend the night in a homestay with a local family - a real highlight. Return to Saigon. DAYS 5-6 /NHA TRANG - Visit the infamous Cu Chi Tunnels then fly to the laid-back beach town of Nha Trang. Free day to relax in Nha Trang. DAY 7 / NHA TRANG - Enjoy a boat cruise exploring the offshore islands and snorkelling amongst the colourful fish and coral in the warm waters of the South China Sea. We then hop on the overnight sleeper train to Danang. DAYS 8-9 / HOI AN - On arrival at Danang we visit China Beach, enjoyed as an 'R & R' spot during the Vietnam War, as well as the sensational Marble Mountains for a short trek. Continue onto the ancient port of Hoi An. Hoi An has been influenced down the centuries by a myriad of traders from various cultures. Today it is a delightful backwater town with a maze of narrow streets and an air of liveliness about it.DAYS 10-11 / HANOI - Fly to the charming northern capital Hanoi. We enjoy lunch at KOTO restaurant, an amazing project aimed at providing vocational training for underprivileged young people then enjoy a free afternoon. DAY 12 / HALONG BAY - Travel to Halong Bay where the rugged limestone pinnacles and grottoes combine to form one of the world's most recognisable landscapes. We embark on a memorable cruise amongst this remarkable scenery. A lunch of local seafood is served on board and there are opportunities for swimming, kayaking and visiting one of Halong Bay's many limestone grottoes. Overnight on board. DAY 13 / HANOI - Cruise the bay before returning to Hanoi.
