No activities are planned so you may arrive at any time. Day 2-3 / Cairo - Pyramids - Sphinx While here we enjoy a guided visit to the outstanding Egyptian Museum, the pyramids, Sphinx and the fascinating Valley Temple. At the end of Day 3 we board the night train to Aswan. Day 4 / Aswan Aswan is a friendly, welcoming city with a distinctly laid-back atmosphere. The morning is free to explore the Nubian bazaar, and mid-afternoon we drift lazily around the islands in a traditional felucca sailboat. Day 5-7 / Nile Cruise We depart early for our visit to Abu Simbel. On our Nile riverboat we visit the Temple of Sobek at Kom Ombo and the Temple of Horus at Edfu. One evening, after dinner, we enjoy a fun theme night. In Luxor we ride donkeys into the Valley of the Kings. Day 8 / Luxor We have a free day to explore further, relax or check out the extensive bazaar. Day 9-10 / Red Sea We travel to the Red Sea coast for two days. There's time to laze on the beach and we spend a day on a local fishing boat, swimming and snorkelling in the warm waters, exploring the nearby reefs and tucking in to a great seafood lunch! On Day 2, we visit the Egyptian Museum of Antiquities, the pyramids, the Sphinx and the Valley Temple. In the evening we take the night train to Aswan. Day 3 / Aswan Soak up the atmosphere of this friendly Nubian capital and explore at your own pace. Day 4-6 / Nile Cruise Up early, we head to Abu Simbel and the great temple of Ramses II then return to Aswan to board our riverboat. We sail towards Luxor, visiting the temples at Kom Ombo and Edfu and spending an evening with Egyptian-themed fun. Day 7 / Luxor - Valey of the Kings We cross the Nile at dawn, meet our donkey steads and ride up through the Valley of the Kings. The rest of the day is free until we catch the sleeper train to Cairo. Day 8-9 / Cairo - Sinai We arrive in the morning and have a full day to check out some of the other places of interest. The Khan el Khalili bazaar - Cairo's 'Aladdin's Cave' is a must-see. Day 10 / Mt Sinai - Aqaba In the early hours of the morning we hike to the summit of Mt Sinai (2285m). We watch the sunrise over the peninsula, bathing the surrounding mountains in soft pink light. Later, at Nuweiba, we catch the hydrofoil to Aqaba, in southern Jordan. Day 11 / Wadi Rum - Petra At Wadi Rum, an oasis once home to Lawrence of Arabia, we take an afternoon jeep ride into the desert, surrounded by spectacular sandstone cliffs. We continue to Petra for the night. Day 12 / Petra Petra, a once powerful city lost to desert sand, was rediscovered by a Swiss explorer in 1812. Day 13 / Dana - King's Highway - Amman Dana is an excellent community project that includes a rejuvenated village and an outlet for local arts and crafts.Day 14 / Jerash The Roman city of Jerash is one of the grandest ancient cities in the world. In the afternoon we can make an optional visit to the Dead Sea. Day 15 / Amman Our trip comes to an end this morning in Amman. Additional accommodation is available on request. |
