Day 2 / Amman - Aqaba We set off for the coastal town of Aqaba, a three hour drive south. We spend the afternoon exploring this lively little coastal resort. Day 3 / Wadi Rum - Petra At Wadi Rum, once the home of Lawrence of Arabia, we take an afternoon jeep ride into the desert, surrounded by spectacular weathered sandstone cliffs. We continue to Petra for the night. Day 4 / Petra Petra, once lost to civilisation, was rediscovered by a Swiss explorer in 1812. We walk into this ancient city and enjoy a full day tour exploring the tombs, colonnades, amphitheatre and other places of interest. Day 5 / Dana - King's Highway - Amman Dana is a community project that includes a rejuvenated village and an outlet for local arts and crafts.Day 6 / Jerash - Amman The Roman city of Jerash is one of the grandest ancient cities in the world, with an imposing collection of archways, theatres, temples and cobbled streets. In the afternoon we can visit the Dead Sea. Day 7 / Bethlehem - Jerusalem We travel across the Allenby Bridge and make our way to Jerusalem. We have a free afternoon to explore this timeless city. Day 8 / Jerusalem We spend a full day visiting historic Jerusalem including the Old City, Western Wall, Via Dolorosa (Stations of the Cross), Church of the Holy Sepulchre, Garden of Gethsemane and Yad Vashem (Israel's Holocaust Museum). Day 9 / Nazareth - Sea of Galilee - Jerusalem We drive north to Nazareth and visit the Church of the Annunciation and the Church of St Joseph, then pass by the baptism site on the Jordan River before reaching the town of Tiberias, by the Sea of Galilee. Day 10 / Bethelem - Jerico - Masada We visit the biblical cities of Jericho and Bethlehem before driving through the Judean Desert to enjoy a walk up the Snake Path to Masada.Day 11 / Jerusalem Our trip ends after breakfast in Jerusalem, you can book further accommodation in Jerusalem or Tel Aviv if you wish to extend your stay in Israel. Day 3 / Wadi Rum - Petra Arriving in magnificent Wadi Rum we traverse the red sands in local jeeps and then head to the lost city of Petra. Day 4 / Petra Petra is one of the great cities of the ancient world. With our guide we spend a full day exploring the tombs, colonnades, amphitheatre and beyond - it's a highlight. Day 5 / Dana - King's Highway - Amman At Dana we visit the rejuvenated ancient village where local artisans produce beautiful crafts. Day 6 / Jerash The Roman city of Jerash is one of the grandest ancient cities in the world, with an imposing collection of archways, theatres, temples and cobbled streets. Day 7 / Amman - Damascus The morning is at leisure until we take the local bus to Damascus, where the rest of the day is free to explore. Day 8 / Damascus We enjoy a guided tour of the National Museum and in the fabulous old city we visit the superb Umayyad Mosque. Later we stroll through the old city, exploring the many colourful bazaars and alleyways. Day 9 / Palmyra We drive to the magical ancient city of Palmyra, where we enjoy a guided tour of this imposing site, much of which is still in a fine state of repair. Day 10 / Krak des Chevaliers We travel via Homs to the fabulous Crusader fortress at Krak des Chevaliers. This is the greatest castle of all and one of the highlights of the trip. Day 11-12 / Alepo Aleppo has long been a favourite with travellers. The fabulous vaulted bazaars, unchanged since the 17th century, occupy us for hours and while here we also visit the historic Great Mosque. Day 13-14 / Alepo - Damascus We leave Aleppo early and head back to Damascus. You may spend your last night in Syria exploring Damascus further or maybe have a group dinner in a local restaurant. Our trip finishes after breakfast on Day 14. |
