The following day we visit the giant Buddhist stupa at Bodhnath, and the city's most sacred Hindu site, Pashupatinath. Day 3-4 / Chitwan National Park We travel to Chitwan National Park. We arrive in the village of Sauraha and spend the next day exploring the jungle on elephant-back or in a dugout canoe in search of exotic wildlife, including Indian rhinoceros and the elusive Bengal tiger. Day 5 / Lumbini A final opportunity for a jungle safari before we board our bus for the drive to Lumbini, the birthplace of Lord Buddha, where we spend the night in a charming jungle lodge. Day 6-8 / Varanasi We cross the border and head to Varanasi, where pilgrims flock to bathe in the holy waters. An early morning boat ride on the ganges river enables us to witness the thousands who come to pray, wash and cremate their dead. Day 9 / Agra - Taj Mahal We arrive early in the morning at Agra, home of India's most famous site - the majestic Taj Mahal. The symmetry and grandeur of this amazing 17th century marble mausoleum and grand testament to love are absolutely striking. Day 10 / Tordi Garh A small, traditional and friendly village that sees few tourists, Tordi Garh is set amongst several old temples and a crumbling fort. We stay overnight in the town's 16th century palace. Day 11-12 / Jaipur Rajasthan's capital is home to many regal monuments reflecting the glory days of the maharajas. We pay homage at the impressively ornate Amber Fort and later explore the City Palace, the beautiful Palace of the Winds and the bazaars and backstreets of the Old City. Day 13-14 / Delhi We drive to Delhi and explore, among other treats, Chandni Chowk, Delhi's oldest and busiest market. Our trip ends the following morning.
