No activities are planned, so arrive at any time and explore this wonderful capital. The next day we explore the city by auto-rickshaws, visiting the giant Buddhist stupa at Bodhnath and the city's most sacred Hindu site, Pashupatinath. Day 3-4 / Chitwan National Park We travel to the Chitwan National Park. Crossing the Rapti River, we arrive at our lodge in the village of Sauraha. We explore the jungle on elephant-back, in search of the Indian rhinoceros and the elusive Bengal tiger. Day 5 / Lumbini After early morning jungle activities we drive to Lumbini, the birthplace of Buddha, which exudes a special spirit all its own. We spend the night in a charming jungle camp. Day 6-8 / Varanasi We cross the border and head to Varanasi, where pilgrims flock to bathe in the holy waters. An early morning boat ride on the Ganges enables us to witness the thousands who come to pray, bathe and cremate their dead, before we further explore this amazing city. Day 9 / Agra - Taj Mahal Agra is home to the majestic Taj Mahal. We visit this amazing 17th century marble mausoleum and testament to love, our local guide providing great insight into the history and craftsmanship of this awe-inspiring monument. Day 10 / Tordi Garh We travel to Tordi Garh to experience this unique rural village. Tordi is small and friendly, and sees very few tourists. We stay in a section of the local 16th century Palace and explore the village, nearby temples and forts. Day 11-12 / Jaipur Jaipur is known as the 'pink city', because of the colour of most of its buildings. We visit the stunning medieval Amber Fort, the Old City, the beautiful façade of the Palace of the Winds and the Johari Jewellery Bazaar. Day 13 / Nimaj Bagh The 'real' India is best discovered away from the big cities. In the morning we travel by local bus to Nimaj Bagh, where we wander through the village and discover a traditional lifestyle that has changed little over the centuries. Day 14-15 / Jodhpur We travel by local jeep to the 'blue city' of Jodhpur, on the edge of the Thar Desert. Jodhpur is dominated by the imposing Meherangarh Fort. We visit the fort, explore the walled city and wander around the bustling Sadar Market. Day 16-17 / Udaipur In the morning we head to Udaipur. Known as the 'Venice of the East', the romantic city is full of temples, palaces and havelis, all centering around a beautiful lake. On the evening of Day 17 we take the overnight train to Delhi. Day 18-19 / Delhi We arrive in Delhi and visit the markets of Chandni Chowk and Connaught Place. Our trip ends in the morning of Day 19. Day 2 / Phakding Leaving Kathmandu, we fly to Lukla, in the heart of the Sherpa homeland. From the airstrip our trail follows the Dudh Kosi Valley through to Phakding. Towering above our route are the jagged icy peaks of Thamserku and Kusum Kanguru. Day 3-4 / Namche Bazaar Our trek into Namche Bazaar is rewarded by amazing views, including our first glimpse of Mt Everest. We stay in Namche Bazaar for two nights. On Day 4, we take a fairly easy walk to the pleasant village of Thami and enjoy views up the Khumbu valley to Mt Everest. Day 5-6 / Monjo - Lukla Walk to the small village of Monjo, staying overnight before continuing to Lukla, where we can enjoy a traditional song and dance farewell from our Sherpa crew. Day 7-8 / Kathmandu Upon arrival back in Kathmandu there's time to wander, shop or relax in a café, and to soak up the unique atmosphere of the Nepalese capital. Our trip ends the following morning.
