Ride bicycles to explore the site's many impressive temples.Day 3 / Lampang Our next port of call is home to the unique Elephant Conservation Centre, where we spend a night in a home stay and learn about these majestic creatures.Day 4-5 / Chiang Mai Get up early and help the mahouts (elephant handlers) bring in their elephants from the forest - an unforgettable close encounter with these mighty animals. We then travel by songthaew to Chiang Mai.Perhaps hire a bicycle to visit the many temples and museums for which Chiang Mai is renowned. Home to a colourful array of hill tribes, hit the surrounding hills, ride elephants and trek to meet many intriguing people. Back in Chiang Mai, get busy bargaining while wandering the Night Market.Day 6-8 / The Golden Triangle - Chiang Rai We head for the hills and spend a night in a lovely Thai homestay - a real grassroots experience. Nearby Mae Sai, located inside the Golden Triangle, is the departure point for our afternoon foray into Burma (Myanmar).Day 9-10 / Bangkok Early in the morning, we reach Bangkok's Hualamphong Railway Station and embark on a tour of the City. See Wat Pho, the Grand Palace and the Emerald Buddha. Then we're off to Kanchanaburi to check out the Bridge over the River Kwai and to wander through the WWII war cemetery and museum. On Day 3, we traverse Hellfire Pass and enjoy a dip in Erawan Falls.Day 4 / Ayuthaya Travelling through rich farmland, we arrive at the ancient royal capital of Ayuthaya. Here we have the opportunity to check out the World Heritage-listed temple complex, before boarding the overnight train to Chiang Mai.Day 5-8 / Chiang Mai - Hil Tribe Trek We have two full days to explore this exciting city. We also enjoy a trek in the highland region, try our hand at elephant riding and bamboo rafting, and spend a night in a hill tribe village hut. On the evening of Day 8, we board the sleeper train to Bangkok.Day 9-10 / Bangkok Free time today.
