Trek through the Khumbu to Namche Bazaar T his exceptional high altitude adventure follows the route of our classic Mera Peak expedition as far as the mountain's summit. Then, after descending to the Mera La, we head eastwards into the mountain wilderness of the Upper Hongu Valley. Trekking beneath the towering ramparts of Chamlang, with Lhotse and Everest at all times clearly visible ahead, we reach the sacred lakes at Panch Pokhri. From here, we make the tough crossing of the technical Amphu Labtsa ( 5700m) and drop down into the Imja Valley, where we set up our basecamp below Island Peak ( 6189m). We have 2 days to climb this excellent peak which lies close to the imposing south face of Lhotse. Descending the Everest Trail by way of the Sherpa capital of Namche Bazaar, we complete our circuit trek at Lukla. The remote Rolwaling Valley C lose to the border with Tibet and providing a challenging and little- used approach route to the Khumbu region from the west, the Rolwaling is one of Nepal's finest high mountain valleys. Trekking through the pleasant terraced farmland and across the high forested ridges of the Tamba Kosi and Bhote Kosi valleys, we reach the isolated Sherpa village of Beding beneath our first objective, Ramdung ( 5925m). This excellent peak is climbed from a spectacularly- located high camp and provides superb views northwards to the formidable peaks of Menlungtse and Gauri Shankar. Continuing our trek to the Tesi Lapcha ( 5750m), we camp just beyond this high and impressive pass, in preparation for our ascent of Parchemo ( 6187m). Views from this prominent summit towards Tibet and the Khumbu peaks, including Everest, are truly exceptional.
