As Jamaica's Usain Bolt charged across the line in a new world record time of 9.69 seconds, followed by Richard Thompson of Trinidad and Tobago to win the silver medal, the Caribbean reached the pinnacle of athletic excellence. Bolt and Thompson established themselves as global superstars, and a swell of pride and joy swept across the Caribbean.
