Last year eight under- 20 players from across the region started on just such a journey, when they were selected by Liverpool and England legend John Barnes, now head coach of Jamaica's Reggae Boyz, to train with Premier League team Sunderland, as part of the Digicel Kick Start Football Clinics initiative. Sunderland boasts strong Caribbean connections with T& T trio Jones, Dwight Yorke and Carlos Edwards in their first team squad. It is incredible to think that our little archipelago has produced players capable of competing with the best. And whenever Jones celebrates a goal he sends the message around the world about what fun the lively people of the Caribbean are. We salute our footballing ambassadors!
