1 I am delighted to be able to tell you that the publication of this issue of msafiri coincides with the launch of flights to our 44th destination – Madagascar. Madagascar is full of surprises, and during my recent visit to this Indian Ocean paradise ( the fourth largest island in the world) I found out many things including the amazing fact that most of the plants and animals in Madagascar are unique and only to be found there ( see our feature on Madagascan wildlife on page 84). I also learned that Madagascar has 4,828km of coastline and contains every kind of landscape from desert and coastline to forests and mountains. The most amazing discovery for me, however, was the tremendous potential that exists in this country in terms of precious minerals such as graphite, coal and bauxite. It was also very clear that Madagascar is a country on the threshold of harnessing its great potential to transform the way of life of its people. We are proud to be part of the major catalysts for growth and change in Madagascar as well as for our other destinations in Africa. Just like me, I am sure that there are many of you who will be amazed by the interesting and undiscovered potential that lies not only in Madagascar but also in our other African destinations. Our main quest and challenge as Kenya Airways is to develop an air transportation system that enables individuals, companies and governments to explore the opportunities that exist in today's world.
