The Kenyan Coast We have discovered lots of great locations on the Kenyan coast and here are just two of them; Alfajiri Villas, Diani Beach Alfajiri comprises three sensational villas overlooking Diani Beach. They are owned by a stylish Italian couple and are beautifully furnished. A glamorous white pillared pavilion, the cliff villa has a gorgeous infinity pool and four ensuite bedrooms, one of which is an ultra romantic turret suite with floor-to-ceiling glass walls. Activities include golf, tennis, water sports, deep-sea fishing and fabulous spa treatments. Manda Bay, Lamu Archipelago Here you stay in one of ten private bandas set right on the beach, a few yards from the water. Built from local materials and adorned with wonderful local furniture, this is a fabulous place. The food is delicious and your hosts, who own the lodge, look after you brilliantly. Here, you can spend days relaxing on the private beach, do all the usual water sports and go for a day trip to the surreal bustle of Lamu Town. S A F A R I D R I V E 0 1 4 8 8 7 1 1 4 0 57

After a Kenyan Safari Drive journey, we often organise for people to go to the coast for a few days of absolute relaxation before coming home. Lamu Island The island of Lamu sits in the warm Indian Ocean off the coast of northern Kenya. It exudes enormous charm and has a really lovely, unsophisticated feel. Here you find elegant, Islamic town houses and beautiful Arabic courtyards surrounded by scruffy, narrow alleyways and crumbling walls with peeling paint. The ubiquitous donkeys, who wander the streets at will, brush past intricately carved wooden doors and stone stairways that seem to hint at a former grandeur. A short dhow trip away is Shela Beach. Its smart, beach front houses and wonderful golden sands contrast hugely with the shabby appeal and the bustle and vigour of Lamu Town. Shela Beach is also the location of the super Peponi Hotel.
