CHALO, CHALO, JAY AND STEVE!!Rita Bhagat"Great Majestic Europe tour" My family of 3 from USA took the 14 day Majestic Europe tour with Star Tours on July 9th. The tour guide Adi and driver Tony/JJ were fantastic. The food was really great freshly prepared by the "caravan" that followed us all the way. The tour guide Adi entertained us during the long journey with quiz and games. Adi our tour guide even stopped at other places that were not on the itinerary for either photo stop and or just for the importance. I would highly recommend this tour for those who would like to have Indian food and not hassle with local hotels and places to visit.Anitha Nagendra 6For information and bookings call us 24 hours a day 7 days a week 020 8900 2323Our Contribution to SocietyIn 2012, we at Star Tours are continuing to uphold our responsibility within the wider society by donating £1 for every passenger who travels with us to the Akshaya Patra Foundation. Established in 2000, this non-governmental organisation (NGO) advocates improving primary education by stamping out hunger. The Akshaya Patra ethos stems from the understanding that the poorest individuals in the world are too concerned about where the next meal is coming from to be focused on achieving a good education and as such the route out of poverty is blocked. Akshaya Patra understands that the vicious cycle which arises from poverty is difficult to break. Akshaya Patra helps to reopen the route out of poverty and into education by being the largest non-governmental provider of school lunches in India. Akshaya Patra reaches out to nearly 1.3 million children in over 8,200 government aided schools, in 18 locations, across eight states in India. This makes the Akshaya Patra program the world's largest NGO-run school meal initiative. Its vision is: "No child in India shall be deprived of education because of hunger''. The foundation aims to reach 5 million children by 2020 and Star Tours hopes to help Akshaya Patra in achieving this goal. Akshaya Patra registered charity in England and Wales (no. 1117756) www.akshayapatra.co.uk In 2011, Star Tours donated over £15,000 to Oxfam's educational projects in Uttar Pradesh. Uttar Pradesh is a very large state where 20% of India's poor live. Oxfam projects in UP focus on improving the number of children that complete primary school, as this is the best way for them to break the cycle of poverty. Illiteracy is a major problem in UP where little over half the population are able to read and write, only 43% of women can read compared to 70.2 % of men, which is reflected by the number of girls who finish primary school - only 27% compared to 50% of boys, which is still far too low. This project, supported by Star Tours, has helped Oxfam to improve education for girls and boys in four areas of Uttar Pradesh, with a special focus on girls from marginalised communities. The project promotes quality and equality in education with the purpose to improve children's ability to read and write.Oxfam registered charity in England and Wales (no. 202918) and Scotland (Sc 039042) www.oxfam.org.ukIn 2010, Star Tours donated £15,000 to Pratham UK, and continues to promote a better life and brighter future for less privileged children in India. Pratham was started by UNICEF in 1994 with a mission to erase illiteracy amongst India's 100 million underprivileged children. Pratham has already reached 33 million children since the launch of its "Read India" campaign in 2007. Pratham UK was formed in 2003 and it focuses on raising funds and awareness for Pratham's work. Utilising its ground-breaking teaching techniques, the "Read India" campaign is efficiently run by mobilising over 450,000 volunteers who currently work in more than half of India's 600,000 villages. Working with 22 state governments in India, teachers have been trained in Pratham's ground breaking teaching techniques that help children improve their learning levels in 4-8 weeks.
