Contents Features Travel Zimbabwe, December 2009 Publisher's note Being Zimbabwean, I can't help but be passionate about my homeland. I am also all too aware of how critical tourism is in moving the country forward - it creates and sustains employment and stimulates an exchange between cultures, things all Zimbabweans desire and deserve. However, as a publisher, I know my first responsibility is to provide readers with unbiased, accurate information. So when I visited Zimbabwe this summer with my family, and was reminded that it remains one of Africa's finest destinations, I thought the time was right for Travel Zimbabwe magazine. To ensure we provided detailed coverage across the country, we sent Mark Stratton, an independent journalist, to Zimbabwe for much of September 2009. Although he received logistical assistance from the Zimbabwe Tourism Authority and numerous private sector operators, Mark's remit was clear: to write honestly and openly about his experience, warts and all. Regardless of whether Mark's efforts will lead you to visit Zimbabwe, we will be proud of having provided you with a realistic and up- to- date understanding of the situation on the ground, information that will have enabled you to make an informed decision. Enjoy your read. Appreciation We would like to extend our thanks to Air Zimbabwe for their assistance in providing flights for Mark Stratton's visit. Each of Mark's flights left on time, enabling his tight itinerary. For more information, visit www. airzimbabwe. aero or phone + 44 ( 0) 1293 602510. Craig Rix Publisher CHRISTOPHER SCOTT
