Colonial Merida follows, with its lovely cafés and colourful markets.DAY 2/3 PALENQUE Explore the archaeological site of Palenque, famous for its spectacular ruins set deep in the jungle and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Returning to our secluded jungle setting in time for sunset, listen closely for howler monkeys in the trees.DAY 4-6 OAXACA From Chiapas, on to Oaxaca , one of the most beautiful cities in Mexico. Native culture, amazing markets and Zapotec ruins abound in this historic city. Tour the Monte Alban ruins, sitting on top of a ridge with stunning views over the valley below.DAY 7-9 PUERTO ESCONDIDO Travel from the city to the sea for two perfect days beside the blue waters of the Pacific Ocean. A cool refreshing breeze makes Puerto Escondido a great place to hang out and there are some great bars for a fun night out.DAY 10 TUXTLA GUTIERREZ On to Tuxtla Gutierrez, the capital of Chiapas, for an included boat tour of the spectacular Sumidero Canyon with its 1,000 metre walls and cascading waterfalls. Keep your camera ready for crocodiles, river turtles and tropical birds.DAY 11/12 SAN CRISTOBAL San Cristobal de Las Casas is one of the best preserved colonial cities in all of Latin America. Nestled in the mountains of Chiapas, San Cris has a comfortable climate, colourful Indian markets and a fine array of restaurants.DAY 13/14 FRONTERA COROZAL Along the Guatemalan border to the banks of the mighty Usumacinta River, we take an Indiana Jones style boat ride to the fabled Yaxchilan ruins. Accessible only by boat, the Yaxhilan site has been brilliantly preserved and is the heart of the Lacandon culture.DAY 15 TIKAL/FLORES, GUATEMALA Tikal awaits as you cross the river into Guatemala. This place has to be seen to be believed, with its high pyramids reaching for the sky and lush jungle.DAY 16 CHIAPAS After visiting Tikal, we return to Mexico ready for a trip to the Caribbean coast.DAY 17 CHETUMAL/BACALAR Enjoy an included boat tour of the spectacular scenery and fish life of Bacalar's claim to fame, the beautiful 'Lagoon of Seven Colours'. Take a swim in the Cenote Azul, a perfect natural spring, and head to the coast for some Caribbean fun.DAY 18-20 CARIBBEAN BEACHES Spend three nights on the Mexican Caribbean.
