9Naturally responsibleAt TrekAmerica, we have always felt a strong sense of commitment and respect for the natural surroundings through which we travel and the local people we encounter along the way. Every TrekAmerica tour gives you the opportunity to explore the stunning wilderness areas and National and State Parks of the Americas. We train our tour leaders and educate our travellers in our 'Leave No Trace' philosophy to minimise our impact on the natural environment and wildlife, for example by keeping to existing trails and campsites, and disposing of waste responsibly. WE CLEAN UP WELL...We have sponsored a number of employees to take part in the clean up and restoration of a number of culturally significant tourism-related sites in need of care and rejuvenation. Grand Canyon VolunteeringWe partner with the US Parks Service to help maintain the National Parks of the USA. We recently sponsored ten employee volunteers to assist the Grand Canyon National Park rangers with clearing intrusive vegetation along the scenic roads, improving visitor experiences and wildlife viewing opportunities. Tourism CaresWe are also a founding member and partner of Tourism Cares, a non-profit organisation with a mission to preserve the travel experience for future generations. We have supported a post Hurricane Katrina clean up of New Orleans and the revitalization of Louis Armstrong Park, and the restoration of historic sites in Gettysburg, Pennsylvania. In June 2010, we helped clear and restore recreational areas and trails through Angel Island in San Francisco Bay.Thames Clean Up ChallengeIn August 2010, some of our UK Sales team also volunteered with an environmental charity to clean-up the banks of the River Thames, to benefit the local environment where they work and live in London. American Hiking SocietyWe are also a proud supporter of the American Hiking Society, championing conservation issues in the United States and representing millions of hikers, who are committed to preserving beautiful hiking trails and the surrounding ecosystems for future generations to enjoy.
