Night Stops Day 1/ 2 Los Angeles >> San Diego- A perfect climate, great zoo and heaps of Spanish charm ensure a great trip! Get drenched by SeaWorld's killer whales, unleash some long- lost skating moves then rub shoulders with the surf set in laid- back beach haunts. Day 3 Colorado River- Along California's watery border with Arizona, we'll pick a prime spot to pitch canvas out under the desert stars. Day 4 Wild West Cowboy Camp- Do the Old West thing. Saguaro cacti cast familiar shapes across the Sonora Desert brush at our included Cowboy Camp. Enjoy delicious meals and opt to horseride under the desert sky. Day 5 Monument Valley - Say ' Howdy' to your Indian hogan. Yep, that's a traditional clay and wood Navajo dwelling; and after touring this wondrous natural movie set with our Navajo guide, there's no better place to lay your head. Day 6/ 7 Grand Canyon National Park ( H)- Walk the rim and gaze spellbound into the depths. The best bit? Perhaps waking to the most stunning sunrise nature can summon or flying high over head. Day 8/ 9 Las Vegas ( H)- So much leftfield stuff is part and parcel of Sin City: Caesars Palace mall attendants in full centurion garb, a mock volcano erupting through the evening and newly- weds partying on The Strip. It's brash, it's bizarre. it's brilliant. Day 10 San Joaquin Valley ( H)- Delve into the ' nation's salad bowl', a vast tract striped with crops galore, and often dressed with wispy winter fog. Day 11/ 12 San Francisco ( H)- Clunk up the hills by cable car, work your calves along crooked Lombard Street and chill in ex- hippie heaven, Haight- Ashbury. Later, dress to impress as the North Beach bars compete for your attention. Day 13 Pacific Coast- Winding roads showcase cracking coastal views as LA looms large once again. Day 14 Los Angeles- Get into celeb- spotting mode; we're touring Hollywood and you never know your luck. HighlightsTour details Camping & lodging ? Mountains loom one side, surf laps the other and temperatures hang high month upon month; it's a great winter getaway. Day 2/ 3 San Francisco ( H)- Early prospectors scoured far- off hills, but these slopes are pure gold. Clanking cable cars, jumping clubs, Frisco Bay and Fisherman's Wharf all add up to a mighty fine stopover. Walk the Golden Gate Bridge and you've done it all! Day 4/ 5 Yosemite National Park ( H)- Depending on when you touch down, crunch about in walking boots or on snowshoes. Frozen waterfalls and snowy sequoias and zig- zagged summits look darn spectacular. Day 6 San Joaquin Valley ( H)- Between untamed wildernesses, fix your eyes on this green farmland, whose crops are arranged in neat rows. Day 7/ 8 Death Valley National Park- Earth's fiercest hotspot in summer, it's a whole other story in winter. Thrilling hikes, sunsets that set the whole sky flaming and the swirls of the Great Sand Dunes will impress. Day 9/ 10 Las Vegas ( H)- Feed the one- armed bandits, practice your poker face and lay chips on your lucky number. With theme bars devoted to sports, cigars, karaoke and martinis, and clubs open 24/ 7 - go get some! Day 11 Zion National Park ( H)- Walk along the signature Emerald Pools trail green- tinged waters, cascades and sandcastle- like hunks of amber stone. Day 12 Monument Valley- No need to unpack tents. An authentic wood and clay Navajo hogan provides digs for the night. Feel free to poke around the back yard, the vast expanse of orange and red dust desert, after our Navajo guided 4x4 tour through the valley. Day 13/ 14 Grand Canyon National Park ( H)- Down within that jagged brown, pink and amber landscape, the oasis of Indian Garden provides a bubble of greenery some 3,000 feet down from the rim. Day 15 Sonora Desert- Opt in for a bona fide cowboy camp. It's basic but hey, that's what makes it authentic! With silhouetted cacti for company, a trillion stars overhead and a bunch of stories to swap, this experience is right up there... and the food's good too! Day 16 Tucson- Welcome to Old Pueblo, home of year- round sunshine. If the town has you feeling all ' wild west', so will its surroundings; and those cactus-spiked dust trails are a hit with mountain bikers. Day 17 Joshua Tree National Park- Not to be confused with U2 and Bono, the winding trails and hulking granite put on a top show all the same. The prickly trees themselves are oddball creations and at dusk, they look just surreal. Day 18/ 19 San Diego- Go on a serious splurge in Seaport Village, bronze up on Mission Beach, then take your tan into the nightspots of the Gaslamp Quarter. Why not check out Sea World and make a splash! Day 20 Los Angeles- Tour LA and Hollywood Boulevard or throw in a few final thrills at Disneyland. W ow, this trek is a bundle of contrasts. Pound trails topped with dust or snow, cross stark landscapes on bike or horse, and stop by both immense cities and close- knit Native American communities. Just one tip. Expect a welcome dose of rays, but pack for all climes. It is winter, after all.
