airline spotlight Award- winning wine and New Zealand- inspired cuisineAir New Zealand Boeing 747 More Premium Economy The concierge service is testament to Air New Zealand's customer service mantra, and on- board customer comfort remains a priority for the airline. Due to the number of economy passengers opting for extra legroom, Air New Zealand will double the seating available in its premium economy cabin on its eight Boeing 777 aircraft flying from London to Auckland via LA. By June, each flight will offer 36 premium economy seats, which boast a 41- inch pitch and nine inches of recline and feature a business- class food and beverage service. The airline has already twice increased the number of premium economy seats available on its B747s following a rise in demand from business and leisure passengers. Flying greener and cleaner On the environmental front Air New Zealand expects that, within five years, a good portion of its fleet will be running on a cleaner, greener oil. In the meantime, the airline is working to reduce fuel consumption and cut its carbon emissions by more than 20,000 tonnes a year through a series of aircraft modifications. These include fitting performance- enhancing winglets, to reduce drag, and installing dryers into cabins to cut condensation and make the aircraft lighter. These measures mean Air New Zealand is not only one of the most convenient and comfortable airlines in the sky, but one of the most environmentally friendly, too. LAYER– Use block colours and make sure your top layer is easy to remove. Mixing knits is SO this season! BACK TO MACS– Trench coats are fab for flying as they fold well, won't crease and are great for all body shapes. HAPPY HAIR– Women with long hair should tie it back. With fringes: try twisting the fringe back in a little quiff to keep it off your face. Short hair can fall flat on flights so nip to the loo and apply a little water to the roots and then, in circular movements, rub your hand against your head until the water dries for instant lift. FACE OFF– Cabin pressure dries skin dry out so pack a disposable face- mask ( I recommend Bio- Therm). AND FOR HIM– in your hand luggage, pack a cotton top, sweat pants and cashmere socks and change once you get on board. Not only will you be more comfortable, but your original outfit will stay crumple- free. We know you love New Zealand, but don't just take our word for it – hear what your fellow holidaymakers had to say in New Zealand Tourism's latest ad campaign I t's not often that holidaymakers get to play a starring role in a country's advertising campaign, but earlier this year Tourism New Zealand thrust some very willing British travellers into the limelight as part of its latest ad campaign, What Do You Say UK? Tourism New Zealand let UK travellers exercise their own opinion in more than 1,000 hours of footage collected in and around the country's travel hot spots. Around 200 British travellers volunteered to talk about their holiday experiences, which were whittled down to eight 40- second ads starring 22 holidaymakers. The footage was complemented by 10,000 holiday snaps that were incorporated in the final edit. Holidaymakers who made it into the final ads were paid a one- off appearance fee of NZ$ 1,000 – not a lottery win, but much more agreeable than a poke in the eye from the likes of Simon Cowell. Tourism New Zealand believes it is the first destination to incorporate the unedited ' in- situ' comments of holidaymakers enjoying the country, in a commercial. " It's visually stunning and so different to what we are used to. We loved the mountains, the lakes, the colours and the textures. It's uplifting and it does your soul good," said Val and Pete from Sheffield. The ads began airing in September and filming updates will continue throughout New Zealand's forthcoming summer – which means there is still an opportunity for holidaymakers heading there to take a lead role in future commercials. The next phase of What Do You Say UK? sees the launch of a mobile movie studio which will tour New Zealand from now ( December) until April 2009, allowing British holidaymakers to share their travel experiences with family and friends in a unique holiday video diary. Travellers in New Zealand can call in to the ' Have your say' portable studio to film a personal message about their travels, whether it's swimming with dolphins, partying in Wellington or tramping the Routeburn track. This will then be edited, together with their own photography, into a digital holiday scrapbook that will be posted onto YouTube. The personalised films will also be available via a unique page on www. newzealand. com and an email will be generated and sent out to family and friends with a YouTube link.
