Journey for life Naomi House Children’s Hospice in Hampshire, England, cares for life-limited children and their families. For 2008 it has organised a 12-day fundraising trip to Zambia. The aim is to raise funds for the hospice, while volunteering at the Hands of Compassion centre (www.handsofcompassion.co.uk), which helps orphaned and vulnerable children in Chipulukusu, a large squatter township near Ndola. Volunteers will help improve the infrastructure, and offer care and support to the children. The trip will end with a challenging four-day canoe safari along the River Zambezi, and an optional opportunity to visit the Victoria Falls. ‘We have called this our “Journey for Life,” said events fundraiser, Emma Barlow, ‘because it sums up what it is all about for the 270 families we support at Naomi House and the children in Zambia – making sure a short life is a full life.’ The trip runs from 30 May–10 June and costs £2,850 (Victoria Falls is extra). Spaces are limited. Chris will perform his own material and present new artists in an intimate acoustic setting. The charity’s auction will feature rock & roll and sports memorabilia, plus five nights at Kasaka River Lodge on the Lower Zambezi, all at a champagne dinner and reception graced by Miss Zambia. ‘This is a great little charity,’ says Chris, ‘One that delivers at grass roots level to children.’ MBSCT supports schools in the Lower Zambezi, while promoting local environmental projects and working with UK schools to help raise awareness. www.asiz.org Easy Squeeze for Zambia MBSCT WWW .NORMANCARRSAFARIS.COMkapani@normancarrsafaris.com“Rivers & Rainbows”The Luangwa’s ultimate walking and boating experience in January, February and March November 2007 Travel Zambia 57 KamiliSafariswww.kamilisafaris.com/ WTM AF2800 / 0044 (0)781 0508791Ask your Africa specialist about safaris staying at Kaingu, Ana Tree, Kafunta, Nanzhila, Waterberry& LuangwaWilderness.
