Taking off A helping hand New schools and trees The Kawaza School Fund, a Robin Pope Safaris project in South Luangwa, is behind the construction of a new teacher’s house at Kawaza school, plus classroom blocks at nearby Nsefu Basic School and Kapita Community School. The community members who look after Kapita are also building a new house for a government-trained teacher due in January 2008. Meanwhile the new community school, Katapilla, has opened and is running two nursery classes, with 90 students; grade one classes start in January. These community schools cater for local children unable to find places at Nsefu and Kawaza schools. In July the ‘Reforest Nsefu’ project also got under way, with the planting of 220 trees – including fruit trees, fast-growing indigenous trees (for firewood and building), and slow-growing indigenous trees (for future timber). Kawaza Basic School planted 100 and the rest went to community members who attended the trainings. Reforest Nsefu is an RPS initiative to offset the company’s carbon emissions. Jo Pope thanks all supporters for their generosity – and urges them to keep it coming! www.kawaza.org Welcome service The Bushcamp Company is now offering a welcome service for clients travelling through Lusaka Airport.
