Several hot springs feed it with a constant supply of alkaline soda, but the water evaporates quickly in the sun, leaving behind a vast expanse of white salt that can be up to 30 metres deep in places. From a distance it shimmers in the heat haze and changes colour from brilliant white and soft pastels to cerise pink and deep scarlet depending on the changes in the light. 2WHERE CAN I SEE A COLOURFUL LAKE? JADINI FOREST, DIANI BEACH A small patch of tropical coastal forest that straggles the main beach road at Diani. It's home to 450 endangered Angolan black- and- white colobus monkeys; only an estimated 1,800 survive in Kenya. The Colobus Trust is devoted to the conservation of these primates, whose biggest threat is from traffi c. The trust has built aerial bridges, known as ' colobridges', to allow the monkeys to cross the roads safely. There are nature trails from The Colobus Cottage information centre. ? www. colobustrust. org 1WHERE CAN I SEE A BLACK- AND- WHITE COLOBUS MONKEY? NORTH EASTERN TANZANIA WHEN IN KENYA 2 1 • Migori ?
