F O R R E S E R V A T I O N S C A L L U S O N 0845 130 6982 Mexico 138 Mexico’s Sea Turtles 7 days London to London Days 1. Huatulco [D (Day 2 only)] Depart London for Huatulco. On arrival in Huatulco, you will be met and transferred to Posada Rancho Cerro Largo. The lodge is comprised of five cabanas, each perched high on a cliff overlooking the Pacific Ocean. Day 2. La Escobilla Turtle Camp [B, L, D] After breakfast you visit La Ventanilla estuarine ecosystem, a project run by the community of La Ventanilla, which is restoring the mangroves, a superb natural habitat for sea turtles, alligators and numerous birds. Later you travel to La Escobilla Turtle Camp to learn about their conservation programme. Day 3. Mazunte [B, L, D] Later this morning you visit Mazunte, the site of the National Mexican Turtle Centre. Here biologists and research groups work towards the protection and preservation of sea turtles. After lunch in Puerto Angel you have time to relax on the beach before returning to the lodge. This evening, return to La Escobilla Turtle Camp to continue with the observation of the amazing turtles and the conservation programme, helping patrol the beach, and if you are lucky, releasing hatchlings into the ocean. Day 4. Puerto Escondido [B, L, D] This morning you drive to the charming Mexican village of Puerto Escondido stopping en-route at an iguana rehabilitation centre. While in Puerto Escondido you stay at Hotel Santa Fe. This blissful spot on the Pacific coast offers the rare combination of comfortable accommodation with an unspoiled natural setting. In the afternoon transfer to Manialtepec Lagoon, a tranquil mangrove-lined lagoon with a rich diversity of wetland birdlife, including herons, ibises and egrets. Keep an eye open for more exotic species like Roseate Spoonbills, White-fronted Parrots and Tiger Herons. Day 5. Puerto Escondido [B, L, D] After an early breakfast enjoy a morning boat excursion to view sea turtles. An optional horse ride on the beach is also available. Days 6 & 7. Homeward [B, L, D (L & D Day 6 only)] This morning, you transfer to the airport for your overnight flight via Los Angeles. Arrive home in the early morning. Magdalena Bay [B & L & D (Days 3 to 6 only)] Depart London for La Paz, spending the night in Los Angeles en-route at the Marriott Hotel. On arrival in La Paz, transfer to the Los Arcos Hotel where you spend the night. Next morning, transfer to the Whalewatch Camp at Magdalena Bay on the west coast of the Baja Peninsula where you stay for four nights. Sheltered by low barrier islands, the waters of Magdalena Bay provide a perfect and peaceful winter home to hundreds of Grey Whales. Twin walk-in tents and solar-heated showers provide comfortable accommodation while activities on offer include birdwatching, hiking, beach exploring, sea-kayaking and of course whale-watching. Days 7 to 9. Homeward [B (Days 7 & 8 only)] You return to La Paz by bus for a further night at Los Arcos Hotel before flying home the following day. The Don Jose The 24-metre Don Jose has a capacity for sixteen passengers in seven above-deck air-conditioned cabins, most with a sink, changing area and storage cupboard. Bathroom facilities are shared, with main deck cabins being larger and sharing only one shower between two cabins. There is a dining area and lounge area, as well library and video system available. With six crew members and a naturalist on board, you will be well looked after. Simply Whales! 10 days London to London Days 1 & 2. Depart London Depart London for La Paz, spending the night in Los Angeles en-route at the Marriott Hotel. On arrival in La Paz, a transfer to the Los Arcos Hotel for a 1-night stay, or the Don Jose (depending on your date of departure). Days 3 to 7. Whale-watching [B, L, D] Embark on your 5-night voyage aboard the Don Jose. Begin in the Sea of Cortez where you search for Fin, and Minke Whales and as you progress towards the tip of Baja, you pass waters where Humpback Whales are regularly found. Sightings of Common, and Bottle-nosed Dolphins, Green Turtles, Thresher Sharks, Blue Marlin and even Whale Sharks are all possible. The climax of the trip will be the passage through the northern portion of Magdelena Bay where the Grey Whales will be arriving from their Arctic feeding grounds. Snorkelling, hiking, beach exploring and birdwatching are also on the agenda! Day 8. La Paz [B] Disembark at Magdalena Bay, and return by bus to La Paz, where you spend your final night at the Los Arcos Hotel. Day 9.
