Depart London Depart for Lima where you spend the night at the Posada del Inca Miraflores. Days 2 to 4. Cuzco [B] Fly down to Cuzco, to the Posada del Inca Cuzco Hotel where you will be based for a 3-night stay. Located high in the Andes, Cuzco retains a wonderful mix of Inca and colonial architecture. Llamas are ever present but you may also see Andean Condor, Andean Lapwing, or Giant Coot flying overhead. Days 5 & 6. Machu Picchu [B] Board the train for the journey to the ‘lost city of Machu Picchu’ which stands on a high plateau flanked by Andean peaks. Spend one night at the Machu Picchu Pueblo Hotel in Aguas Calientes, before returning to Machu Picchu early the following morning. Return to Cuzco in the afternoon, where you will stay a further night at the Posada del Inca Cuzco Hotel. Days 7 to 10. Puerto Maldonado [B, L, D] Transfer to the airport for a short flight to Puerto Maldonado from where you travel by motorised canoe to the Reserva Amazonica Lodge deep in the jungle for four nights. There are walking trails and boats which are available to cruise in and out of the lakes and lagoons, and you will have exceptional photographic opportunities. Species you may see include Giant Otter, Jaguar, Black Caiman and Emperor Tamarins. In addition there are over 900 species of bird and some 1,200 species of butterfly. Puno [B] Board a first class bus for a spectacular 8-hour journey across the wild altiplano. Wildlife you may see includes Andean Condor, Mountain Fox, Llama and Alpaca. Spend the night at the Libertador Estevez Hotel in Puno. Day 13. Lake Titicaca [B, L, D] Lake Titicaca is the highest navigable lake in the world and its setting with a backdrop of the snow-capped Andes is truly captivating. Departing by boat from the town of Puno you spend the night on the island of Taquile. Wildlife to look out for includes Chilean Flamingo, Andean Coot, Torrent Duck and the ubiquitous Llama. Day 14. Lima [B] Depart Taquile for the Uros islands. The islands are unique, floating on a bed of reeds, which the locals continuously replace to prevent the islands from sinking. You will have the opportunity to walk around the islands to see the houses and boats, which are also built entirely out of reeds. The residents enjoy giving an insight into their fascinating way of life. Continue by boat to Puno and transfer on by road to Juliaca airport in time for your flight to Lima. Your final night will be spent at the Posada del Inca Miraflores Hotel. Days 15 & 16. Homeward [B (Day 15 only)] Transfer to Lima airport in time for your flight to London, where you arrive the next day. Cruising the Amazon 13 days London to London. Day 1. Amazon Cruise [B, L & D (Days 3 to 8 only)] Fly to Iquitos for a 1-night stay at the Victoria Regia Hotel, before embarking on a 6-night cruise on the world’s greatest river system aboard the MV Rio Amazonas, which accommodates 44 passengers in 21 comfortable air-conditioned cabins. Visit local Indian villages, trek through the surrounding rainforests, enjoy night-time nature cruises on small launches, fish for Piranha and view the magnificent wildlife along the way. Flamingoes, cormorants, boobies, pelicans and terns as well as penguins, sealions and Fur Seals may also be found on the nearby Ballestos Islands. Spend two nights at Las Dunas Hotel. Manu National Park 4 days from Cuzco Visit the cloud forests and rain forests of Manu National Park for a 3-night stay at Manu Cloud Forest Lodge. This huge 1.5 million hectare park has successive tiers of vegetation rising from 150 to 4200 metres above sea level. The tropical forest in the lower tiers is home to an unrivalled variety of animal and plant species. Some 850 species of birds have been identified and rare species such as the Giant Otter and the Giant Armadillo also find refuge here. Jaguars are often sighted in the park.
