The Vessels For the wildlife cruises we have featured this year, we have made a selection of vessels based on their size, comfort, speed and capability of exploring remote wildlife areas and isolated backwaters – as well as a few little extras such as onboard helicopters, adventure options and al-fresco bars! The ships featured generally range from around 50 to 125 passengers although in some cases carry as few as 12 passengers. 206 F O R R E S E R V A T I O N S C A L L U S O N 0845 130 6982 Triple /sh Shared facilities. To help narrow down the choices and to identify the vessel that will best suit your comfort levels, style and sense of adventure, we have divided the ships into distinct areas. For each ship, you will find a description and a deck plan on the following pages. Adventure Ships These vessels are small – carrying between 46 and 110 like-minded adventurers – extremely manoeuvrable and capable of reaching areas the larger ships cannot. Frequent zodiac landings, as well as adventure options such as camping, kayaking, cross-country skiing and mountaineering, make these ships ideal for active travellers. Expedition Ships The expedition ships offer a relaxed, comfortable adventure and a perfect introduction to expedition cruising. The onboard team of experts bring the destinations to life through informal talks, walks and hikes ashore, as well as regular zodiac excursions. Luxury Expedition Cruise Ships Retaining the concept of small-ship cruising, the luxury vessels accommodate between 12 and 120 guests. They offer an excellent standard of refined comfort and service, in tune with the environment and in a relaxed and informal atmosphere. These vessels have outstanding facilities and equipment – all ships carry zodiacs, some have helicopters, jet boats and scuba-diving gear. Icebreakers The powerful, comfortable icebreakers have a massive icebreaking hull and the highest possible international ice class ratings, enabling them to navigate safely and efficiently through ice-choked waterways into very seldom explored parts of the world. The icebreakers carry zodiacs and helicopters. Under Sail The sailing vessels are large enough for comfort, privacy and safety, yet small enough to create a good rapport among passengers and crew. With all the safety equipment, electronic navigation aids and features you would expect from high-standard sailing vessels you could be fully involved with sailing these ships. What is included in the voyage price The price of your voyage includes practically everything you need whilst onboard. Although each ship and trip varies, so please refer to the individual itinerary pages and contact us with any questions. - Voyage including all guided shore excursions by zodiac - Helicopter excursions (on some trips these may be an additional cost) - Flights as indicated in the itinerary - Pre- and post-cruise hotel accommodation as indicated in the itinerary - All meals whilst onboard - Lectures and presentations by a team of expert guides and naturalists - Comprehensive pre-departure materials - Expedition log - Some ships have rubber boots on loan for landings - Some ships provide complimentary parkas; others may have jackets and warm weather gear for loan, hire or purchase - Snorkelling and scuba-diving equipment as indicated in the itinerary About the itineraries The itineraries included in our Wildlife Cruising section should be read as a guide only. These are voyages to remote and rarely visited parts of the world and the exact route and programme will vary according to ice and weather conditions – and of course the wildlife you encounter along the way. Flexibility is the key to a successful expedition cruise. Visits to research stations, private reserves and protected areas will depend on final permissions.
