S E E U S O N T H E W E B AT wildlifeworldwide.com Kapinga Bush Camp on a wooden peninsula in the Busanga Plains is a new camp (it opened in July 2006) and has been designed to blend in with the environment. Like Busanga Bush Camp it can accommodate six guests (seven or eight if it is for a single party). Most parts of the camp are constructed of natural materials with the rooms being tented. Shumba Bush Camp on an island in the heart of the Busanga Plains consists of tents built on raised decking. It accommodates twelve guests. The focus here is on involving guests in the safari way of life and many of the meals are prepared and cooked in front of the guests. Lufupa Camp is located in the central northern section of the park. It has six large Meru tents with en-suite facilities. The bar area is under huge Jackalberry trees, overlooking the Kafue River. Dinners are served in a traditional-style boma under the stars, next to a lively camp fire or in the tented dining room. Livingstone, Victoria Falls Victoria Falls on Zambian side was always considered to be the ‘poorer cousin’ by comparison with the views of the river and the Falls from Zimbabwe. Not now however. In recent years, the Zambian authorities have made tremendous efforts to redevelop the paths and walkways in the vicinity of the Falls, and the viewing places along the paths. It is now every bit as good as viewing from Zimbabwe, and is thought by many people to be considerably better. There is a huge range of activities on offer at the Falls and plenty of great places to stay. On pages 74 and 75 we talk more about the Falls and illustrate some of the accommodations options (these are by no means exhaustive) that are on offer. We generally use British Airways flights into Zambia (at the time of writing these are three times per week on a Monday, Wednesday and Friday), but it is just as easy to fly in to Zambia via either Nairobi or Johannesburg – and this opens up the options to combine Zambia with other destinations. All of the ideas below are suggestions which can be adjusted to suit. They can easily be combined with other countries in the region – Malawi (for a lakeside beach stop), Botswana, Namibia, gorillaviewing in Uganda, or a visit to the wineries in Cape Town… anything is possible, just ask for our ideas and suggestions.
