For most veterinary applications a focused grid should be the choice, as the focal film distance is normally 75cm, where a parallel grid would produce a characteristic cut off on the resulting film, however a parallel grid is useful in situations where it is not easy to centre the x- ray beam on the centre of a focused grid.
