Turtle (Selingan) IslandThis peaceful tropical island is named after theturtles which come ashore to lay their eggs oncethe sun has set. Both green and hawksbill turtlesare common here and at any time of year there is a good chance of seeing a mother laying hereggs. Selingan is one of three islands which havebeen designated a national park, to protect thenewly laid eggs and vulnerable hatchlings. Theaccommodation here is basic, but nothing canspoil the experience of seeing a mother haulingherself onto the beach to nest or the tiny turtlesscrabbling towards the black night sea.SipadanThe limestone pinnacle island of Sipadan -described as the last jewel in a crown in the WestPacific - rises about 600 metres from the seafloor off Borneo's east coast. Perfect for those who are keen on diving but wish to remain secluded, the eco-friendly Kapalai resort has tasteful chalets built around a wooden walkway.
